Camping at Cabo Pulmo in June?

I'm looking for recommendations for a relaxing camping/kayak/snorkel location for a June trip to this area.

Does anyone know if there is camping allowed at the national park itself? And if so, are there any facilities at the campgrounds?

Or should I be prepared to bring all supplies with me?

Also- how buggy is the area? Lots of mosquitoes etc? (I'll be sure to bring repellent and mosquito netting if so.)

Thank you for Information and suggestions!

There are camping and facilities (bath & Shower) at Cabo Pulmo.
If I am not mistaken, last time through there were two campsites.

Thank you Udo.

Do u mean only 2 campsites, or 2 campgrounds?

I've tried using google earth for views of area. I think someone said there was an abandoned campground right on the water? Or maybe I'm thinking of BOLA...

BTW...be sure you stop by the small gift store. Browse throughout their book collection, and get one of their t-shirts. They are really unique and artistic.

"There are camping and facilities (bath & Shower) at Cabo Pulmo.

Well, if this is true I would like to have specific directions to these campsites.

From my experience in this area, and this is based on 15 yrs of living 5+ months of the year within 3 miles of CP, there are no campsites with bath and showers.

There is an area that is immediately north of the village of Cabo Pulmo and south of the old launch ramp that is often used for dry camping. The Castro family for numerous years charged a fee to camp there and there was a "toilet" small wooden structure with a hole in the ground across the street. For the past several years I don't think anybody is collecting $$, but wouldn't swear to it.

The other area that may be used for camping is south of Cabo Pulmo and north of Los Frailes, and is now called Rancho Los Arbolitos(another thread kicks the name of this place around) and is controlled by the rancher that lives on the entry road AND gates off the access road at night. Not sure if fees are charged or not. Both of these locations are within the Cabo Pulmo Marine Park and you may be charged a Park Day use fee, again, not 100% sure of the fee situation.

No groceries closer than La Ribera. June is HOT. Probably not many bugs unless rain or a storm of some kind has passed thru.

The beaches both north and south of Cabo Pulmo get the odd campers, but they are all totally dry camping as well. In Los Frailes there is a well available but I would not drink the water and, again, dry camping with so so snorkeling.

Good luck. FF

thanks FF.

Sounds pretty rustic but I've done dry camping in Baja before and can prepare accordingly.

I'm mostly looking for some good areas For kayaking and snorkeling and I've heard CP is very good vs so so.

Can you suggest a better choice of locations for those activities?

Thank you I appreciate your help.

Whale: Cabo Pulmo is a great area to snorkel or kayak. My only comments were that there were no "campsites available with bath and shower". There are several B&Bs in Cabo Pulmo that might allow camping within their properties but I have no knowledge if this is available.

I spent a week back in the early 80's camping out of a plane at Los Frailes. All self contained with a backpacking tent, ice chest, Zodiac inflatable boat, etc. One of the best experiences ever in Baja, and was before the hotel was built.

With land transportation available, GO FOR IT. If you don't like where you are, move!

Amigo, Floatflyer is correcto; dry camping. Los Arbolitos is beautiful for kayaking and snorkeling! You can also access the reef near the main beach. Frailes is also good. CP has a few good restaurants---small but very adequate. Will not reveal all personal favs---just go do it! Water temps are near 80 now! Big south swell stirring it up all over the East Cape. Enjoy. Thanks for straightening me out, floatflyer!

I always thought that the area behind the gift shop were the campsites (at least they looked like it.

I have never stayed there, just driven by and visited several times.
