How has the dorado season been off Loreto, so far?

You guys down there definitely have warmer water than we have and it looks to be much bluer in close.

But has that translated into a good dorado season yet? I'm trying to see if there are more on the way, so I'm asking at every train station along their route.

Lots of billfish have come in, in the last couple days. Not biting all that much yet, though. Not that I care. I like billfish that dont bite. More time spent fishing for dorado and tuna.

Well, I guess there are conclusions to be reached from NO answer..........

-no fish to speak of

-too many fish and no time to post.

-I dont care if Hook's 150 miles north of me; I ain't talking.

Hook.....Slow to nonexistent. Both dorado and billfish. There are a few around, but it's hard to interest them in either lures or live bait. And, mackerel are also scarce. Maybe it will improve as the heat sets in, but for now fishing for pelagics out of Loreto is pretty dismal.

Thanks, Bill. That's what I expected. Sounds like it's been slow down at the East Cape, too, for dorado. I think it's going to be a slow year.

Maybe the lack of sardines are having an effect.

Looks like warmer water is being pushed up into the Cortez. Do you think this will have an effect on the fishing; dorado following the warmer water up? I will be down in San Lucas Cove end of next week, and hope the yellowtail are still biting with a chance of catching a dorado or two...

Any change in the dorado or tuna situation down in Loreto?

Our first tournament of the year concluded yesterday and there were three dorado over 30 lbs. caught in two days fishing for about 20-25 boats. Maybe a total of 10-15 dorado over the tournament minimum of 15 lbs. In addition, there were probably about 15 billfish released.

Tuna made a showing but they were far out. I trolled through a group several times near a tuna trawler. No bites; I guess they were skittish as the net was in the water.

Anyway, the water is nice and blue even inshore, about 77-80. Just not a lot of fish yet.

Tons of turtles, though. And the moebelas seem to have made a comeback.

Skeet is here.
I would suggest that you go up to Delelfonso Island and on the way troll some Squid pieces.

also go out to Mercenarias Reef and check it out,

The fishing in the Sea Of cortez runs in Cycles such as when they took out most of the Sierra in 74 now the Sierra are back, the same when they took out a lot of Squid.
Suggest youTurn off your Electonic Gear and learn to read the Water
As you should know the Fish move in and out of the Sea on a regular Basis.

It is just a little Early for the Dorado as the water must get a little Warmer.

good Luck. Build your Knowledge of the Water theWinds, the Birds an I hope you do better.

Hook.....Your scanty torneo results sound like a feeding frenzy from here. I ran 120 NM yesterday north and east pulling feathers a large part of it without a knockdown. My guess is that the few fish you are seeing came north in the warm water that has been hugging the Mainland shore.

Bill, it seems like every time I look at the chloro charts or the SST charts, there is this plume of good water about 5 miles east of Catalina/Catalan. Did you go through that area?

Skeet-a boat fished Ildefonso hard for a week solid, about a week ago. I can talk with boats from there with my two meter radio. Good YT, pez fuerte fishing, even a dog snapper or two. But no pelagics.

Oh, and it's not like we DONT look for birds and bait while our FFs are on. It reads temps, too. Muy importante.

Not yesterday, but last week I made a two day trip south anchoring for the night at Isla San Jose (sharing an anchorage with Cazador from your neck of the woods). I worked the rock at Las Animas in the afternoon and again at sun-up for wahoo, and then went straight to that break outside Catalana. I saw one anemic marlin about 60# close enough to pursue, but couldn't interest it. Trolled north and back in to the north end of Carmen. For nada......

did you see any Amberjack/ or Lingcod.? Sometimes right around the North side of Puilptio you can pick up some nice Lingcod.

Looks like the Fish are hanging down South for a While.

Sure like to hear of your Great Fishing Trips . Keep them coming!

Very poor dorado in this area also. Three boats going south tomorrow to see what the Mulege folks are after. It's time for something to break open. We had/have 5 sardine boats in the bay for the last few days and more searching the coast both north and south. Haven't seen their spotter plane yet this season. They are the larger newer boats more like small tuna seiners.
