Looking for a cheaper way to call across the border.

I am spending too much for roaming fees to call and receive cell phone for MX to US. Can I get some ideas? I use Cricket cellular now. Thx

I used my T-Mobile SmartPhone while I was living in Tijuana, and never paid anything extra for making and receiving calls. My Simple Choice plan ran me (and still does), around $65 per month.

Go buy a Telcel phone and put it on the Amigo plan. Calls to the U.S. are 2.98$/minute unless you top-up more than 50$ (m.n.) in a month, in which case they're 1.98$/minute. That's about 15 cents. Incoming calls to Mexican cell phones in Mexico are always free.

If you have internet capability "majicjack" works very well for us...
but we have Telmex internet..... calls to U.S. numbers cost nothing,, if you are
in the states you can set up international to Mexico numbers at I think 10cents per minute...
but you need good internet at your location...

MagicJack

When you buy the system, you can get a new phone number (you can chose the area code) or you can "port" your current home/cell number.

We have had MJ in both Baja and in the states with no problems. We can call residential, cell and "free" (800 type) numbers. You can also set up your account to get an e-mail notification and voicemail sent to your e-mail address.

It's always a hoot when a telemarketing outfit calls your house and wants to sell you something.......I just tell them I am out of the country

We have used a Majicjack for about 5 years now at our US home and our BAJA home.. costs you nothing to call any U.S. number since you are using the internet...
If you want to call Mexico numbers you have to purchase international minutes but again I think its about 10 cents per minute..
Don't buy the Majicjack plus use the plain ole Majicjack as we understand..
you do need to have it connected to a computer and it is best to have the computer hardwired to the router for best reception.. although it will work on wifi pretty good..
plug a cordless phone or regular phone into the Majicjack... you can see all the info at Majicjack.com
good luck

I don't think you can buy the original MagicJack, they upgraded to the Plus model

One advantage to the Plus model is that you do not need to connect it to your computer or even have your computer on.......it attaches to your router, a better way to go. Connect the MagicJack to the router, plug your phone into the MagicJack and start making calls

Google Voice set up in the usa , allows free calls to the usa from anywhere. Calls in mex from mex are one cent per minute. No equipment to purchase, no set up fees.

If you set it up in mex, all mex calls are free from anywhere, calls to the usa are 9 cents a minute.

Requires a fast internet connection.

Make sure that you set it up when you are in the US, I don't think that you will be able to do it from a Mexico ISP.
