care to share?

What can people tell me about some smaller communities around La Paz, Cabo San Lucas, or points a little bit north of Cabo and also points in between La Paz and Cabo?

Is the weather in those areas as hot as it is in say Punto Chivato or Loreto?

What would be your suggestion for places with weather that's not too hot or humid and not overly crowded in the most southern part of Baja?

thanks in advance!

Spend some time in El Pescadero near Todos Santos.

Loreto has been perfect, raising kids & all.

Loreto & La Paz, though, you really need a summer home.

I feel good in Pescadero & like it's people . . . Tio 'n all.

I think you're describing the climate in Southern California, not Baja Sur. We like Loreto, but it's hot in the summer and windy in the winter.

One footnote I neglected to add, Krystal, is that I had traveled every paved road and most dirt roads all over Baja before we settled on Bahia Asuncịn. La Paz and La Ribera were also in the running.
We spent a lot of time in every place we were considering living in.

You do not want to try to look in the East cape area, Kristal. The property owners seem to think that there is no recession in Mexico.

With that said, my favorite place with a decent temperate climate, is La Ribera, where Osprey lives. Adorable old fishing town, great people, and you are half way between Cabo and La Paz for some decent shopping, plus great medical care.

But...

you need to spend some time (a week or two at a time) at each of the east cape towns (Todos Santos, Pescadero ...subscribe to the Baja Western Onion for some properties for sale), Subscribe to La Paz Gringos, and the Bajaponyexpress, com to look-see what properties are selling for, plus local announcements.
There are lots of B&B's from La Paz to East Cape to Todos Santos (you'll love Todos Santos...BTW). However, it is a tall order to find a road to drive on, in order to reach the beach. It seems that the property owners have everything fenced off with barbed wire or tall block walls.

So hot, we were all around the areas around La Paz and it was 107 degrees during the day in May.

I'm telling you, you can't even think in that kind of heat.

I am sorry we have not had a chance to meet yet. We always thought we would do the same as Blanca, keep our BA house and spend time in La Paz. I am still in love with Bahia Asuncion and will hold onto it for as long as I can

Cool in East Cape

It's really not that hot in East Cape. When we feel a little warm down here we just find new ways to keep cool. Everybody has their own method; merchants, housewives, fishermen, everybody.

We live in Nopolo/Loreto year around. Gets a little hot in the summer months. However, being close to the water, our hottest days usually stay around 94, which with fans is bearable. We keep a one ton unit working during the day to keep the humidity down, Produces close to 5 gallons of condensation water a day.
A/C at night is a must. Expensive, but a lot cheaper than a second residence or a rental in a cooler climate.
All a matter of priorities.

Van, I think you're right. It all worked out. Didn't even have to move the corpse for the first week.

Hi Bajaluna... We are heading down to the Mag Bay area this summer to have a look around San Carlos, Lopez Mateos and points south on the Pacific side. I hope all is well with you and the Bear. If you are heading down that way, let me know, it would be nice to hang out with you guys again.

thanks, bajacalifornian and ncampion!

Todos Santos and Pescadero have been on our radar, we have friends who visit there and love it. We are planning on renting a vacation rental there and then perhaps find a place to rent for awhile and then buy something wherever we feel is a good fit for us after spending some time in several places!

Loreto is a little too hot for us, although we LOVE the city there!

thanks Udo, for all the great info!

Friends also tell us Todo Santos is right up our alley, but we need to check into it and spend time there. Yes, I am noticing the price of places in the Southerly areas of Baja, HOLY GUACAMOLE!!! Whatever we end up buying hopefully this time we will rent out as a vacation rental as it has always been our intention to only live in Baja half of the year.

It is my understanding that Todos Santos is 1 hour from Cabo airport? Is the road from Cabo to Todos Santos, dirt or paved?

thanks again Udo, I will check into those resources you referred me to!

The road from the airport is fully paved and a 4 lane highway.

Be sure you stop at the hammock store at the south end of Pescadero!

You'll have a hard time getting to the water, Kristal...all beachfront owners have everything walled or barb-wired in.

You keep harping on the access thing Udo, but it's simply not true, there are lots of places to access the beach. Just off the top of my head I can think of at least 15 public access points just between Los Cerritos point and San Pedrito, it just takes a little bit of effort to figure out where they are.
