has anyone seen Oscar and Matilda at Snta. Ines?
I stopped by their house Friday 6/13 to visit and deliver a gift I had offered on last visit in April. No one around, but a horse trailer was out
front and 4 horses were tied in various areas, away from each other, with no food/water. Lots of horse poop on ground near each- not a good sign.
I was worried about horses in heat (95+) with no water and little shade. Gave each two drinks from 5 gal. camp buckets I carry before departing. Each
finished the first 5 gals. in record time, and the 2nd nearly as fast. There was plenty of water in tank out front, near gate, but they were tied
away from it.
Anyone know what's going on with Oscar and Matilda? I worry about them at times, like yesterday... and really bothered by situation w/horses.
Thanks!

Have you tried contacting Ralph, the gringo that has a home on the ranch. I believe he is a ham operator and someone on this board may know his call
sign.

So is their motel across from the hotel also closed, and the ranch cafe too?

In addition to Santa Ines Ranch, do they also operate the Motel Linda and restaurant at the north end of town?
Can someone traveling north or south please check in town or check at the police station asap?

Sta Ines Ranch for sale
thank you everyone for feedback. I'm now at La Bocana w/Blanca, cooling off.
Agree, would be good for someone to do a "welfare check" on horses...
I also heard via U2U the land is for sale.

Santa Inez has been for sale for a long time. Oscar was not the legal owner but rumor had it he claimed it since he had lived on it for so long so I
suspect he has some clout. He has been clearing stuff off the place ie metal etc and last time I was there in February I did not see a single cow.
Josefina must be rolling in her grave now with the things that have developed on her ranch since her death and changes of ownership. A certain gringo
I believe from San Diego thought he bought it and was going to divide it up into vacation parcels but I think the legal issues might have been a
problem.
Ralph and Patty do not spend the summer there.

I hope someone does check on the horses soon! There is nothing more cruel than to allow one's animals to be without water especially in the heat!
I have seen how a horse, a couple of dogs, and cats drink after being without water for 24 hours when it is warm and it is a pathetic thing to see
their desperation! It sounds like these horses have been there longer??
Hopefully, since there was a trailer there, maybe someone went and moved them ---

wouldn't there be enough people in Catavina to know what is going on? Sta Ines should be a part of the community.

Yes, I'm sure people in Catavina know what's going on.
People know what's going on everywhere but by and large stay out of someone else's business. It's a matter of respect.
Will they act and intervene if animals are in danger? Probably not unless they've been asked to do so; then it's their business. That's why I urge
anyone traveling through to go and check asap and follow through if something's amiss.

I saw them when we were down for the Mexican 1000 (5/11). WB was in the race car from Cataviņa to Bahia de Los Angeles but I stopped by the ranch for
lunch with the rest of our race crew. All was well, lunch was fantastic and it was great to catch up with nuestra familia.
