Bringing quads across the border
Looking for updated info from people bringing quads across the border, have you been inspected or did they turn you back if you did not have the
proper paper work? Thanks for your input!

Have a copy of the current registration. Know where the VIN is on the quad. If they inspect it (which in my experience is 75% of the time) you will be
able to point out where the VIN is to save time looking for it.

In April they were checking every quad and motorcycle for registration. I only had a title (Arizona has title only vehicles) and while they let me
cross they gave me a hard time.

Yep, in January at Tecate, they looked at all the paperwork, the VIN, and wanted to see the current green sticker. I had 'em all, and it was smooth.

I crossed Tecate twice in May, quad in back of truck. They checked both time, comparing my registration to the VIN number.
Federal police did a U Turn to check both my truck (new so no license plates) and quad registration. No issue, checked me and sent me on my way. I
thought they were pulling me over as I was above speed limit. He didn't mention it.
Then a stop of all vehicles on Highway 1 checking all registrations, again, polite and no issue.
La Paz ransomed me as I was pulling out of town. Mentioned a $100 US Dollar infraction for no license plate. With 3 officers in my window, I reached
over and untaped the registration for my new truck to show them, had to release my seat belt when I did so. They repeated it was an infraction to
drive with no plates, and returned my registration, but not my drivers license. Mentioned the $100 again.
So I gave in, offering $400 pesos. Then they said infraction #2, no seat belt. I laughed, they did not share in my humor. Another 15 minutes and more
mentions of $100 US Dollars. They finally exchanged my drivers license for $400 pesos, jerks!
My first issue, have made around 10 driving trips. Nearly everyone I encounter is great, so I will brush it off.

Brought one down in May and they asked for the registration and asked me to show them the VIN location on the quad, as well as my RV and trailer.

Going down the San Ysidro customs wanted a copy of the registration for BOTH the trailer and the Polaris we had. Then they compared the VIN numbers.
Coming back through Tecate the only thing they have asked me for the last 3 times was the trailer registration, but I am sure there are times they
will want to see both

went to Gonzaga in 3 weeks ago crossed at Mexicali they asked for Registration for my Quad that was in the back of my Van and boat and trailer too

Boy, times sure have changed. I used to have two Honda 200sx quads that I would trailer down about every other weekend to my wife's company's beach
house in Ensenada. I bought them in '89 and never did any paperwork after that. The same '89 registration sticker was on them until I sold them in
2007.
I would always cross San Ysidro. 50/50 I would hit the "red" light. They would hassle me and try to get money out of me then let me go a couple of
times. After that when I got the "red" light I just kept driving and ready to plead ignorance.  Never once did they follow me. Back then they never paid attention.

Crossed with ours in Oct at Mexicali and they asked for the reg on the quad only (not the trailer), we had it and cruised on down to San
Felipe.......... .not a big deal at all. Have the paperwork!!! nancy

I've got a golf cart to bring down but they typically have no official registration - not sure how to proceed.
