Ford escape Hybrid
I am looking at buying a used Ford Escape Hybrid (1/2 electric, 1/2 gas) and driving it down to Los Cabos this fall. Can anyone tell me if the
mechanics there have experience with Hybrid's? Would it be a mistake to take something like that down there as it is a relatively new technology?
Thanks for any help you might be able to give me.

We have a '13 Ford C max Hybrid. All of the current hybrids use nearly the same technology as the earlier Ford Escape Hybrid and it if very reliable.
Only thing that needs addressed is software updates as you would with your home computer. The hybrid is just a huge computer! IMHO, you will not
find anyone in Mexico to work on a hybrid. In the States, you have to go to a Ford dealer that sells a lot of hybrids to find a reliable mechanic.
I would not be afraid to take ours down, knowing I may have to trailer it back should something go wrong. I will add, we traded in a BMW we owned for
15 years (bought it new) & loved and we now love our Hybrid just as much.

Couldn't you just take the car to the nearest Ford Dealer, say, in La Paz? A friend had some computer issues in a brand new Dodge truck while in Baja
- we took it to a dealer in Ensenada and they had no problem diagnosing and repairing.

That plant builds gas driven Fusions, no hybrids. Ford hybrids are built in the USA.

A hybrid is more complex than a gas or diesel rig. So much so when we had the wiring installed for towing with the motorhome, a separate wire loom
was installed. No one dared touch the hybrid wiring. The hybrid is just a huge computer on wheels.

Thanks all for your replies. I spoke to a Ford dealership here in B.C., they suggested it was NOT a good idea to take a Hybrid down there, for all
the same reasons. Just a regular garden variety ford escape would be better. So now I am on the look out to buy a 2005 ish Ford Escape, light
colour, automatic.

they make 2 inch lifts for escapes, throw on a set of oversized BFG's, you're good to go!
