BODY'S FOR RANSOM IN MEXICO.

Why should it cost $13,000 to transport a body to the US from Rocky Point?

"Lanna’s family is currently trying to transport her body from Mexico to Arizona, but they have been told it will cost $13,000. They have set up a GoFundMe account to help cover the cost."
=======================================

These "they have been told" things are usually unclear as to whether they were quoted a price in dollars or pesos. Being Mexico, I'd guess Ps and that number seems reasonable.

Also sounds like a good setup for a scam.

I have a Dr. friend that graduated with me, his father is a surgeon and his mother owns a pharmacy in Rocky Point. I'll ask him about it.

not unlike the catavina $800 tow bill that was settled for $40!
this death from energy drinks, if that is what killed her, is really tragic, hopefully folks will take notice:no:

Both of those scenarios are more likely than it costs 13,000 dollars to get the body back. There are probably a bunch of gringos dying every day in Mex that get buried in the US.

Would it be illegal to set up a website using this type of false pretense to collect money from sympathetic Mexico haters? There's a lot of them. Easy money? A quick buck?

From what my doctor friend told me in Rocky Point, there is only one funeraria there so they have a monopoly on costs there, who knows if the drink was laced with ecstasy and a lethal dose at that. From what my friend told me she was sent home weeks ago.

Wow. From energy drinks to lethal doses of Ecstacy. Do you have anything to back that up - newspaper article, police report, medical examination, anything?

Really? About 95% of all young kids that go to Rocky Point are dehydrated and hungover. Cardiac arrest in that age group highly unlikely unless of course she had an undiagnosed cardiac condition possibly congenital.

well to be fair, we would need the toxicology and autopsy reports but chances are there was more than just a high caffeine drink and alcohol attributing to her death. I mean Rocky Point is party city. I do feel very bad for the family losing such a young and beautiful daughter my condolences are with them

Local AZ papers and news reported exactly what Elizabeth states above - that's what killed her. Every body has different tolerances.

Why say something like that? It casts a shadow upon her and there is absolutely no evidence.

An Expensive End-Game

Don't know about the "so I've been told", BUT I do know that those I've known over the years in Baja (quite a few, in fact) whose Spouse chose to have the body shipped home were charged like (around $10K +/-) amounts.

Obviously, a Ripoff, but Quien Sabe as to reason ?
