Ford Raptor?
I had to take Ol Smokey in for a leaky fuel line at a Ford/Dodge store. The GM was driving a 2014 Raptor which I was allowed to drive and fondle. Once
past the cosmetics it seemed more sizzle than steak. Very neat truck, flashy, but still a pretty much F150 underneath, according to the parts manager
. When I asked the price, I got a grin and an "around 70" answer.

Chuckie, I bought a Raptor last year & paid $57,000 out the door in Orange County, Ca. I'm not a techie kind of guy so I don't about the parts
comparison between the F-150 and a Raptor but I'll tell you that in a seat of the pants comparison in off road conditions the stock Raptor blows the
doors off a stock F-150. You said you drove the Raptor and weren't impressed. Were you able to take it on a rough dirt road? That is where the Raptor
really shines. From fast washboard to slow rocky stuff it is far and away superior to a F-150. Next time, try to take the Raptor on a rough dirt
road, I think you might change you mind a little.

I actually didn't say I wasn't impressed....I really had no interest in buying one so, no didn't take it off road...The parts manager went with me,
and commented on the configuration....57 K is about what it would actually sell for I bet....My daughter just bought a Duramax with about a 19K price
drop...I'll keep my Dodge....

I had a chance to ride in two Raptors... and they had aftermarket tires and suspension... they both rode great.
Seems the front spindle is a weak point and gusseted spindles are available or gussets to add to your Raptor... so THIS doesn't happen...

I have to disagree. After market is not the key word... common sense is. If you're 20 something and want to drive this stock truck like a SCORE Trophy
truck you'll end up like the picture above. If you want to get from point A to point B in the most comfortable stock vehicle available nothing beats a
Raptor.

My Tacoma is all stock... and because it is an OFF ROAD TRD 4WD, it really needs little more to go anywhere. I did dent the underbody behind the rear
tire and snagged the chrome bumper, pulling it away from the truck when it was only 6 months old (going to Mission Santa Marķa). The key is
reliability, and it needed little more than what Toyota does for it.
However, nothing is 100% and like the Raptor having weak spindles, the Tacoma has a relief valve (one way breather) on the rear differential and that
can cause water contamination when crossing deep water/ mud bogs. A mod I did to correct this is to install a true two way breather at the end of a
rubber tube, to a point up high. This is what Toyota has for the front differential. I also put a slightly taller than stock tire on it, but not tall
so it needed a lift or that will rub.
The Raptors on the Cameron Steele tour were not racing, just having fun off road. That was the only breakdown on the three days I was with them (not
counting the two BFG fails).

Don't forget that a Trophy Truck gets taken apart after a Baja 1000 race, parts are checked and replaced as necessary for the next race.
