Importing pets
Does anyone know if there is a limit on the number of pets a permanent resident can import? I have searched online and found conflicting results.
i.e. 2 per person, 3 free, fee for 4 or more.

I'm not aware of any importation process for pets. As far as I know you just take them with you.
Anybody?

How many of what types of pets are you talking about?
We have 4 dogs who travel with us back and forth, 3 of which are former street dogs. By car no issue. By air ~ two issues.
1. Alaska Airlines has a restriction based on crate size. Crates are sized #200-#500. Larger ones ~ #600~ aren't accepted. The total crate number is
#800 per flight. They don't accept inside under-the-seat animal carriers (so they say) on international flights, although I have seen them. There is
also a local with a "Service Dog" that rides inside the plane on a leash.
2. Mexican agricultural rules allow no more than 2 dogs per person to enter by air. (When we fly with all 4 dogs, we enter as individuals and not as
husband and wife. 2 dogs are mine and 2 are his.)

I cross both ways with 2 dogs and 2 cats, I'm often alone otherwise. I have shot records for all (remember that MX only recognizes rabies shots for 1
year), I've quit bothering with health certificates when driving as no one has ever asked for them but we do get one for Cacahuate the pocket pooch
whenever she goes by air.
"Life is tough".....It's even tougher if you're stupid.....

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. We are hoping to make a trip later this year-sans pets-and if we like it, begin to work towards permanent
residency. We currently have 4 cats and a dog. We would enter by land if we were moving there. I was hoping there was no limit. We would NEVER
move if we couldn't take our "kids."

Get international health certificates for all of them 5 days or less before you cross with them, remember about the 1 year limit on rabies shots, it
doesn't matter what your shot record says, it's 1 year in MX. I doubt that anyone will even mention the pets even if you go to MX secondary but at
least you will be more at ease the first time.
A word to the wise: Put cats in separate carriers. I tried to put 2 of mine in the same carrier and a "scuffle" ensued. It's not a good idea to let
them "free range" in your car or truck, too many potential scenarios where you could lose them.
