baja gps maps
can anybody recommend a good gps with detailed baja maps. Thanks

Baja Maps for gps

I believe these great Baja maps work only with Lowrance GPS, they may have other formats for other manufacturers.
The Lowrance GPS is used by the off-road race teams. As indicated in the first reply, PCI in Signal Hill, CA is a vendor for them. PCI supports what
they sell, I've had great after sales service from them. The Lowrance units they sell come with Baja maps and the Murdock map is an improved version.

The Murdock maps are updated after every Baja race. New roads are constantly updated. The maps include topo data scanned from the Mx topos. all the
main highways are included and many have the kilometer waypoints included.
I have the maps in both my Lowrance and my Garmin GPS. The two versions are not exactly the same, but the differences are trivial. What you get is a
download to your computer, then you copy the data to either your GPS directly (Garmin) or to an SD card for the Lowrance. Instruction are included.

Cartografiagps & Lowrance
Apparently there is not a map compatible with the Lowrance GPS units, at least not yet. The detail looks good, plus I like the installed trails
feature.

This is what I installed on my Garmin 60 csx. Works for me. The roads are not spot on, but close enough. If I had one gripe ... the Garmin maps
pre-installed on the csx near the border on the US side seem to have been over written my this map. There are blank areas as a result.

If this is an issue you can go to the "Setup Map" page and with the us maps set to "Show" set the Baja maps to "Hide" which should solve the problem,
once in Baja switch the Baja map to "Show".

Another option is to get a Garmin GPS like a Oregon or Montana and add the BirdsEye Satellite Imagery. Basically it gives you a google earth view. The
larger the GPS the better the view.

This sound interesting! Great for seeing roads not on maps, like there are so many of in Baja!
