Anyone know when the lychee crop is harvested in Todos Santos? I think it should be soon????

Acute encephalitis
Encephalitis is a deadly viral disease which may be spread through consumption of lychee fruit. The disease appears to affect only children based on
cases reported from India and northern Vietnam where it was called Ac Mong encephalitis after the Vietnamese word for nightmare. In June 2014, it
claimed several lives in lychee growing areas of eastern India. The disease seems to remain localized to the affected areas and occurs during the
harvesting season in late May to early June.
Associated with hypoglycemia, this condition in undernourished children may be triggered by a toxic substance called methylenecyclopropyl—glycine, a
homologue of hypoglycin A found in lychee fruits.

Lychee season was just underway this past month in Hawaii... So it might be the time now. I had no idea Lychee was down in Todos Santos. One of my all
time favorite fruits. Only place to get them around here is 99 Ranch market. Also love Longans.
On another note, I was thinking.. instead of lychee, are you possibly thinking of Rambutan? They are much more common in Central America. Lychee is
more of an Asian fruit.

I have had lychee from Todos Santos a few times and it seems to me it was around this time of year. There must be a number of trees there because
they sell the fruit along the hwy. out of town. Anyone awake in TS?

I saw a truck load of them in Mulege last week
First time I had them the lady at the laundry in Palo Verde gave me a bag full. I put them in the frig and I eat so many I couldn't leave the area
with a bathroom for two days. Too much of a good thing

They've flooded the Vietnamese markets by my house, as well as rambutans and longans, so it must be season somewhere besides Viet Nam.

Lychee or Litchi
A wonderful fruit that reminds me of eating a big, juicy grape. They are (or were) grown in San Diego, so need only a subtropical climate like a
citrus or avocado needs.

The skin peels off the fruit exactly how the shell comes off a hard boiled egg. One seed in the middle... This is a good fruit and worthy to try...

I Love this fruit and it grows abundantly here in Todos Santos. I was just told that the fruits fruited last month. They told me where a few trees are
and said that I MAY be able to still find a few, but mostly they are all gone.

The fruit from my tree was harvested last month in Pescadero. It is a small tree, first year of producing. It produced about 150 fruits. They were
excellent. Brian

Same name in Espanol - lychee. It looks like I missed this year's crop in TS, WAAAAH. They must not have had a large harvest this year. In years
past they show up in the markets about now. It has, however, been a bumper crop for guanabana (soursop) this year. All the three wheeled ice cream
vendors have helado de guanabana. This is my favorite and is pretty guilt free, lo sugar and dairy.

It's an awesome fruit, I was first introduced to it by some Asians I worked with, and have loved it ever since. I had no idea they grow in Mexico!
