Convoy from San Diego to Cabo in early October

Hi - my husband and I are heading to Cabo Pulmo around October 6, and would like to convoy with some other Nomads for all or part of the way! We've made the trip about 10 times, but would feel more comfortable this time around with company, since the country has been through such a rough time, and we're not sure what's in place and what isn't. We'll be driving a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 pulling a 17' trailer; my husband is very handy mechanically (I'm more the planner and computer person, hence I'm posting this message:-). Our departure date is somewhat flexible, give or take a few days, and we're also somewhat flexible as to exact itinerary and stopover points. We'd like to take down supplies that would be of assistance, if we know what would be useful.

Anyone interested?!

Hola Julie,

You guys are welcome to join a 7 vehicle lifeguard caravan that departs San Diego on Oct 2. We are headed to Punta Abreojos and Bahia Asuncion. We will be conducting a lifeguard training program in Bahia Asuncion, more info on that here:

http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=75176#pid9319...

We meet in Imperial Beach at 7am and head south at 8am. All day driving on Mex1 until we get to the Punta Abreojos turn off/road, then off to Abreojos. You are welcome to join us in Abreojos or from the turn off it is about an hour to San Ignacio. We keep the speeds moderate and if one car stops - all cars stop.

Peace,
Aaron

Thank you very much! I'll check with my husband to see if the timing works. That's a little sooner than planned, but might work. Thanks!

Plan well and take your time coming down. I would keep an eye on Raquel to see if she doesn't dump more rain on the highway road repairs. They could all easily turn into mud and that isn't any fun when you're pulling a trailer...

Thanks for the reminder. Sure seems like the hurricane/rainy season is stretching out this year! Though I suppose it is still September, technically the rainy season still. Sitting here in dry California, hard to believe...

To Aaron - looks like the timing for pulling everything together to convoy with the lifeguard group won't work out, since there are a few too many arrangements we still have to take care of; wish we'd thought of this convoy idea earlier. Thank you very much for the offer, though!

Hola Julie,

No worries and like Bajagringo said, take your time and plan well. I think hurricane Rachel will hook into Baja on tues/weds and its center projected to move just south of Mag Bay.

Have a great and safe trip.

Peace,
A

Julie, maybe you could ask for a few lifeguard cell numbers so you could try to call them when they get south for road and travel info.

Good idea! If any of the lifeguard folks would feel comfortable passing on that info, you could send it to me via U2U? Conversely, if you have internet access along the road, you could post info re road conditions here on BajaNomad?

Ay, darn, am afraid we're not going to be ready by Oct 1! Thanks, though. If that changes and we accelerate, I'll get in touch. Thanks for the offer.
