Thanks for letting me know. I know some do not work, but my front page choices are limited, and I had to chose one.

BTW...

My health is really a lot better these days. The doctors are planning on sewing my insides back together in two weeks. I'll still have only two feet of intestines, but I was told that it will stretch somewhat.
I'll still have to live with my porta-cath implant for a while, until my system stabilizes, and I am able to obtain ALL my nutrition through food and liquids such as water.
Believe it or not, I have lost all my taste for beer...can you believe that? I am allowed to eat and drink what I want with no restrictions, but I have found out that GATORADE is best for my system because I retain most of what I drink and don't pee it out.

Mil gracias, DK!

BTW, Jana got her Sentri yesterday, and the FJ is now registered as my second vehicle.
And last weekend I installed the AFE air intake that I bought at the off-road show.
What a difference!
The mileage went from 17+- to 22+ when I drive the car sensibly. I.E. keep it under 65 and drive mostly freeway. I think my kit is the same one that fits in your Tacoma.

That's what I thought also, Woody.

AFE makes kits for many vehicles, and had I known the HP and mileage increase was going to be that much, I would have done it much sooner.
At the show, the kit cost me $285.

All the kit consists is an air filter similar to the K&N and approximately a 16" cubic square plastic box that houses the filter. The filter itself has an outer filter as well as an inner filter. The air intake tube is about 4" diameter, as opposed to the 2-½" diameter stock housing.

I think AFE advertised a HP increase of about 20%, and more than that for the diesels.
I feel that everyone that owns a Tacoma or FJ Cruiser should get one. I have never made it from Orange County to Ensenada and back on one tank, and I had two gallons still left in the tank when we returned!

I have an AFE lifetime (discontinued) air filter in my Tundra. it doesn't require any oil like a KN, it is a direct replacement. I REALLY would like you to keep me in the loop and request you track 3-10 tankfulls.

that 4.7 motor is one of the best engines ever designed by Toyota and I have been going 10k on an oil change interval with synthetic for the past 5 years. I had the oil analyzed and they told me there is no reason to not go an additional 2500 mile and retest. I'm good with 10k which is 1.5 years!!!!!

Best luck with the sale, Compa!

Very cool MPG news Udo... are you sure you just aren't driving slower now? ;)

Your home photos are great views... I especially liked the one with those big "bugs" on the floor!

I too have done the oil analysis on the FJ, after changing it at about 10,000+. I got the same results.

I'll keep you informed on the next gas fill, Woody.

However, keep in mind that the AFE air intake is a system, not just a direct replacement to the stock filter. The filter is a dual cone shape filter, with another smaller cone filter within the outer filter. Plus you get an auxiliary air intake port.

I really was not driving slower...I usually keep my speeds at about 65.
The cruise control I use only on flat roads, I'm not a fan of the cruise downshifts to keep up the speed in small uphill drives.

I Googled reviews for this cold air intake unit and it seems power/torque numbers are better, but I didn't see any comments about MPG improvement.

For $300 it appears to be a good upgrade.... YMMV

I think the MPG improvements are a bonus. I don't think any aftermarket manufacturer is allowed to post any MPG gain claims.

In my case, i noticed a little more "pep" when I stepped on the gas at a traffic light, and in this case, the higher torque at the low end, is beneficial because the transmission did not downshift when approaching a rise in road height or a hill.

In any case I am extremely happy with my upgrade.

No droning. I have heard the same thing, and was willing to put up with it, but it did not happen. I think it's the filter design.

$242 is a helluva deal, woody. I paid $47.00 more than that.
