Diesel fuel in Baja questions (asking for a friend...)
I'm planning a trip w/friends to the lagoons this spring. Here's a question from one of the drivers, who has not taken her Dodge Sprinter into Baja
before. She asked another person about getting diesel in Baja and then asked me:
"My van is a 2006, which he says would be ok to drive there, since it doesn't require Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. But at the end of this article, he
says "Baja supposedly has low sulfur diesel but I have not verified this. So if you know for sure (if you have actually bought it), let me know." Low
Sulfur Diesel isn't ULSD."
So....can someone who drives a diesel vehicle advise re availability of fuel, ultra low or otherwise, for driving to/from Scammons, and possibly
San Ignacio, in March?

ULTRA LOW SULFUR is available at all Baja California Pemex stations that sell diesel (I am talking about the state, not the peninsula). Look for UBA
(Ulta Bajo Azufre Diesel)
LOW SULFUR may be only available in the state of Baja California Sur. 'Bajo Azufre' Diesel.

Your diesel was built before 2007, so it can use either lsd (low sulphur diesel - not the drug!) or ulsd (ultra low sulphur diesel). Diesel engines
built after 2007 can only use usld.
Two dirt roads diverged in Baja and I, I took the one less graveled by......

I can't answer ULSD vs LSD as my 99 F350 with the 7.3 just does't care. As far as availability from 12/20 to 1/5 I put in fuel at -
Going south:
San Felipe
Vizcaino
Ciudad Insurgents
Several stops in San Jose del Cabo near the airport
Going north:
La Paz
Mulege
Jesus Maria
San Vicente
All were at 14.2p/l
I passed by many, many more stations with diesel shown on the signs. It's just not tough to find.
One tip - I did knock out my fuel restrictor door in the fill neck on my last trip. All the Mexican diesel nozzels are sized for big rigs and it's a
real pain in the burro for the attendant to have to stand there and hold the nozzle just right as it won't hang by itself with the restrictor. It also
eliminates all the splashing and fuel kickbacks.

The signs will say Bajo Azufre (Low Sulfur) or Ultra Baja Azufre 'UBA'. All the diesel pumps in the north half of the peninsula (state of Baja Ca)
should be signed with the Ultra added to the name. Please let us know when you see Ultra or UBA signs in Baja Sur as well...

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 which requires ULSD. Only taken it as far as Guerrero Negro. Fill up in El Rosario and top off at Jesus Maria (last known
ULSD according to Antonio) headed south......YMMV

Thanks to everyone for current help/Information/updates. Being a non-diesel driver this was a new topic for me.
I've passed helpful replies along to the diesel owner to review.
And I realize "search" is available, and use it often on various issues. I did a brief search, and appreciate getting the most up to date Information
since fuel availability etc. can change periodically, and other posts have been up for a while.

WHAT exactly? is DK waiting for? I have been driving diesel trucks up and down the peninsula since 1990. No problems...I see lots of Sprinters on the
road....I guess if you work hard enough you can conjure up a problem...My daughters 2013 Duramax loves Mexican diesel.....Hold your breath DK,
something will come along.....

Like you, others drive new and old diesels on Mexican Bajo Azufre without issues... However, there are some who are afraid of voiding their warranty
or ruining their expensive diesels by not using ULTRA LOW sulfur diesel. I get it.
