Bringing in 12 House Batteries for off grid system

I'm having a friend bring down 12 new house batteries from the States. The government is charging 16 percent tax as well as 16 percent duty. This seems steep to me. It was suggested that the batteries could qualify for a discount because of solar related use.

Anyone out there who may have more information?

I've imported batteries in the last 2 years for neighbors...

the fee at the border was 16% ...that's it

the weight is the problem...
one time in a 3/4 ton and one time in a 1 ton pickup

really heavy

Yes, it's 16%, not 16+16. Typical 6v batts are about 66 lbs each,12 batts would be 800 lbs. Plus people, plus their own cargo. Heavy.

I'll 2nd that, I've never been charged more than 16% since the increase in EVA
