You can google updated gas prices in Baja. I suggest punching in: Gas prices in Baja. my guess is it will still be 15/20 cents a gallon more than stateside. If you are going, learn the peso versus dollar purchase savvy tricks.

The good folks at Discover Baja Travel Club just posted the prices today in the January Newsletter: www.discoverbaja.com

PESO EXCHANGE RATE: $14.6 to $1 U.S. dollar
PEMEX PRICES:
Northern Baja: Magna: $3.83/gal, Premium: $4.04/gal, Diesel: $3.93/gal
Southern Baja: Magna: $3.90/gal, Premium: $3.98/gal, Diesel: $3.93/gal

These are about $1.50 a gallon more than the lower priced stations in San Diego (Costco, Arco, etc.) and $1.00 more than the higher priced stations. I paid $2.25/ gal at Costco yesterday for regular.

Recommend joining the club for great Baja deals and data: http://www.discoverbaja.com

First hand report

Loreto on January 10th.

Magna: 13.57 pesos per liter = $3.496 a gallon
Diesel: 14.20 pesos per liter = $3.659 a gallon

The above is based on receiving 14.71 pesos to the $ at the ATM.

I guess Discover Baja should come out from behind their desks and actually go to a gas station before going to press.

I got gas at Costco (in Santee) yesterday too and at $2.25/ gal that's $1.58 less than at my local PEMEX station

Gas

The posted Exchange rate Dollars vs pesos or pesos vs dollars at the bank/exchange house is not usually in line with the Pemex exchange rate at any given station. If that don't totally confuse you nothing will. What I recommend get pesos as soon as you can and then you pay the posted price, Easey Peasey and don't worry in mexico you don't have any other choices.

Good point on the paying in pesos. You can certainly pay in dollars at just about any Pemex but your mileage will vary. I have asked at several stations in the past month. There were a few in Ensenada offering 14.5 pesos per dollar, while the one in Guerrero only 11. Asuncion's going rate is 12 per dollar.

I think I stopped at a few gas stations recently that said on the sign on the pump that tip was already included into the price. Hadn't seen or noticed it before. I was buying 87 magna, and doing some quick math I was realizing I was paying about $4.50 a gallon, even with a 13 to 1 exchange. :/

$2.05 per gallon for Regular on Wednesday (1/14) in Carson City @ Save Mart. Reno Costco (within 25 miles) was at $2.25 that same day. Many Carson City gas stations were below $2.10!

Heading east soon and I'll be interested to see the US pattern.
