Some trivia
On my climbing expedition, back when, we rented a Hilux double cab 4x4 and I drove up the side of Ojos del Salado (Chile) to 18.5'k where we left it
buried in its tracks in deep sand. Not enough HP to get enough momentum to make it further. 3 days later after summit I backed it down to the lower
hut and drove back to Copiapo. I Still have not found a report of someone being able to drive to a higher elevation. The Russians tried to summit
Elbrus, but their modified Rover could not make the goal. When I was there it was parked at 15-16'k above the hut, but the story was they would keep
trying. Later I read they gave up.

Yeah, today's Stage was gnarly to say the least. A couple of drivers (including Nasser) had to stop and throw up.
Laia is incroyable to say the least. I believe her Stage finish today will keep her in the top ten overall.

Well, it's over and Laia finished 9th Overall in the Bike Classification. That's NINTH, folks. What a rider.
Oh yeah, and Robby Gordon managed to salvage a bit of pride and win today's rain-shorted Stage. That win might, might have give him a top twenty
finish in the Car Classification. (Edit: Yes, 19th Overall, nearly 8 hours "adrift") He made some points with me though (not that THAT amounts to a
hill of frijoles) by campaigning on to the finish even though a chance at the podium was out of the picture for the past several Stages.
I'd sure like to see one or two of major teams: MINI, Peugeot, Toyota have a go at some of the off-road races here in Baja California and the U.S.
Probably won't happen, even though there've been a couple of attempts with MINI and Toyota recently in Baja CA.
By the same token, I'd also like to see more U.S. participation in the Dakar Rally. Rally-Raid competition is considerably different from the
point-to-point races here in N. America.
The Dakar Rally is over 9,000 km in length with 4,500 km of that Special Stages (i.e. racing flat out) over 14 days. It would be like racing a
different San Felipe 250 course over and over again for two weeks. I don't compare the Raid Rallies with American off-road races. They're different.
Both types are difficult.
