Old Wreck uncovered in Bahia Asuncion

The hurricanes last fall carved out some of the old shipwrecks that had disappeared in the sand many years ago. Juan told me of a story that the elders told him when he was a child of a ship that had wrecked near Asuncion when they were just kids which would make that wreck over 100 years old.

Juan saw some metal sticking up when he was fishing the other day and marked it on his GPS. So he went to investigate yesterday and found it! The engine is huge and only about 50 meters off the beach so you can snorkel around it.

He said there were lots of fish and lobsters around it so we marked the spot with this cool rock so others can visit it. Hopefully it will be around awhile longer. There are 2 more in the area we want to investigate too which have also appeared.

It was pretty rough so I stayed on the beach and found some of the wrecks pieces like this chunk of wood and a piece of metal.

the sunset was sweet last night in the little cove beside our Inn.

I was thinking this old motor must have been one of the first early diesel engines as ships didnt start using them till the early 1900's. Juan wants to see if he can clean off some of the metal with a wire brush to get a better look at it.
