renting a car at TJ airport

Has anyone ever rented a car at TJ airport and been able to drive it to the USA? Care to share your info? insurance costs and so on issues.

I cannot get info off Volaris website on the conditions stipulated on car rentals, they are cheap and then we know what insurance is for Mexico side, but will this cover US side if just in San Diego regions.

I have found a place at the border on the US side of OT and SY that rents cars but have not asked them for pricing yet.

Ideally rent the car from the airport drive to US and return it there could be best for me. on a 2-3 day trip for my fathers b-day.

I've done the planes trains and automobiles to get to the rental places near San Diego Airport and that is just too time consuming.

Enterprise picks up up, right? They would probably pick you up on the US side at the border in SY. Seems easier than driving a MX rental across.

since no definitive answers went to the rental company websites.

For rental at TJ airport, , though they have cars at $8.00 a day for rental the usual insurance is about $40.00 to $60.00 a day, some were a flat fee of several hundred dollars for insurance so all over the place on insurance. And most said you can take the car to the US, but did not note if that insurance was going to also cover you in the USA.

Found one place on the border, US side. obviously very convenient at booth crossings. It takes about 1 day for them to get back to you on the rentals if you email them, rental pick ups are right at the US side of the border.
