Bajablanca,

If you find a bumper cargo rack it belongs to one of the recent visitors to asuncion. It was stolen from the vehicle while camped at campo sirena about a month ago. Shari can get in touch with the man. Actually that's pretty far from la bocana. I think it's unlikely.

It was found hidden on the property in front of the campground with the pin still in it.

It has been our experience that petty thieves are often on foot. If they steal too much to carry very far they will hide it in the bushes not far from where they stole it. They will then go find a friend with a car to come and collect the booty.

So, always search the area. Look for prints or any other indication of the direction the thieves likely took. We retrieved a whole bunch of stuff taken from a neighbor's garage including a rolling generator by following the broken tracks. Felt like the Hardy Boys!

We did not however have the cajones to stake out the drop site that night for when the bad guys came back, and they did. We were just happy to know the driver was probably peeed that he had to bring his car out so many miles of bad road for nothing.

I relayed a message to Shari at the Lagoon today. Maybe the guy who lost the rack isn't a follower of Nomads, or has no friends on here. Does anyone remember if he reported it stolen to the Policia here?

Oh there is no doubt that a guy had one stolen from the slab along side the beach house next to the camp ground. It made the internet about the same time that all the thievery was going on at La Bocana. It happened at about the same time I was burglarized, everyone was afraid it was part of a crime spree. It is hard to believe that this rack isn't the missing one. Before I take it off the property it is hidden on (for safekeeping) because of the personality of the guy who owns the property, I'd like to make sure it is the missing hitch rack. I sure don't think the property owner stole it.

When one of the officers asked me if I had the phone number of the person who lost it, the other officer cut in to say that it was on the police report. Who knows when the guy will be back to recover it? I don't think there is a receiver on the back of the Police truck.:lol:

I have kept thinking, "yeah, right..... the Policia will contact the owner". Been there, DIDN'T do that. Vags, let us know the final outcome, just for chits and giggles. Baja es Baja, no problema.

{my edit} and please let me state, this is not an accusation of corruption, but : "who's gonna pay for the phone calls and follow-up?". Just like, "sure, there was a robbery on the beach, but who's gonna pay for the gas to go out and investigate it?"

Lord love a duck, but it's Baja.

It isn't like this municipality can't afford 50 pesos for a phone call. These are nice young guys trying to do a good job for the town. There is a lot of corruption that they know about. This is something they can complete. They'll all packing smart phones and lookin' at 'em all the time. If the guy comes to get it back and it isn't here, I'll likely hear about it, and I'll let you know. That stuff gets around pretty fast in a place where a couple dozen people speak English.
