TIP - Temporary Importation Permit for Boat - info needed

To All: My friend is planning a fishing trip to Bay of LA. He will be towing his 20' center console with outboard. I believe he will need a TIP for the boat. Has anyone picked a TIP up lately? And, what is the process and can this be done online prior to leaving or at border? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks bk

Your friend can get a TIP for his boat online at:

https://www.banjercito.com.mx/registroVehiculos/

The TIP/sticker will be delivered to an address in the States within days of filling out the online application.

Look at the last part of the URL. The software changed it so not to offend. It has an "illegal" string c*u*l*o in it, which was changed to burro. Unnecessarily, IMHO.

There's NO Temporary Importation Permit for boats, you can ONLY get a 10 year permit that cost me $59.16 US Cy (including 16% tax) all you need is your current boat registration (bring the title just in case) and your tourist permit; your vehicle doesn't need a permit because the peninsula is "Zona Fronteriza (border zone) all the way to Cabo, in Sonora is all the land west of Hwy 15 all the way south to Guaymas. YES! your boat permit outlives your tourist visa. I got my permit at the Tecate border crossing and it took about 30 minutes and you pay at the same window.

Here's a link that will be helpful, just click on Continue and select English then click on Boat Permit:

https://www.banjercito.com.mx/registroVehiburros/

Zona Fronteriza:

http://www.bajabound.com/before/permits/vehicle.php

This is the link to the Secretaria de Hacienda y Credito Publico and the Servicio de Administracion Tributaria, they're the ones that determine the "Zona Fronteriza". On the second item: "Region Fronteriza" it says that the state of Baja California and Baja California Sur are considered "Zona Fronteriza":

http://www.sat.gob.mx/aduanas/pasajeros/Paginas/Franja_regio...

This is a link to a website by the US Department of State for tourists visiting Mexico, even though its in spanish you can look for "Permisos de Vehiburros" and read lines 4,5 and 6 and once again you can see that Baja is "Zona Fronteriza"

http://spanish.matamoros.usconsulate.gov/ciudadanos/informac...

for some $@)?(^<$ reason the word "V e h i c u l o s" keeps on beeing changed to "Vehiburros" PLEASE just retype it before using the link, or copy paste the link and then retype it on your browser. I used spaces between the letters ("V e h i c u l o s") so it wouldn't be detected and changed, thus please eliminate the spaces between letters when retyping.

I have a TIP on my sailboat, I used the online system and easily got it in the mail in a few days. Boat is berthed in San Diego but I sail south frequently. Don't forget fishing licenses and FMM for each person! Also technically you need a FCC license for each VHF radio on board. I don't have that little gem.
