Scientology...The Prison of Belief HBO Documentary

Powerful HBO documentary about the Scientology "Church" airs over the next few days. I saw the first one that aired at 5 PM Pacific time today. Powerful presentation. I always wondered what drew people to this "science" of religion. The full title is "Going Clear - Scientology and The Prison of Belief".

Their main technology center is located on highway 79 between Hemet and Beaumont. Very impressive:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Scientology

"Gold Base, Riverside County, California
Main article: Gold Base
The headquarters of the Religious Technology Center, the entity that oversees Scientology operations worldwide, is located in unincorporated Riverside County, California, near Gilman Hot Springs and north of Hemet. The facility, known as Gold Base or "Int", is owned by Golden Era Productions and is the home of Scientology's media production studio, Golden Era Studios. Several Scientology executives, including David Miscavige, live and work at the base.[44] Therefore Gold Base is Scientology's international administrative headquarters.[45][46][47][48]

The Church of Scientology bought a former resort, which had been popular with Hollywood figures, in 1978; the resort became Gold Base.[49] The facilities at Gold Base have been toured by journalists several times. They are surrounded by floodlights and video observation cameras,[44][50][51][52] and the compound is protected by razor wire.[53] Gold Base also has recreational facilities, including basketball, volleyball, and soccer facilities, an exercise building, a waterslide, a small lake with two beaches, and a golf course.[54]

Unreal. We have a member of our extended family that is heavily involved in the 'church'. I have always had a fascination about religion in general and scientology seemed, to me at least, a laughable concept from the first time I was exposed in the mid-80's. This documentary is fascinating and scary at the same time. Everyone should see it and then write their elected representative and request that the IRS take another look at the whole 'tax exempt' deal. What a scam. I still think Top Gun was a cool movie, though.

"My brother, a friend, and I witnessed six craft over Baja, Calif, beach in October of 1969

In 1969, my friend Steve, my brother, and myself were sent to a secret base in Mexico to live and study on an olive and avocado plantation some fifteen miles south of Ensenada, Mexico, about half way down the Baja penninsula. We all belonged to the Church of Scientology,............"

Just keeping it real, and relevant. ;)

That's what the 'REPORT' box in the upper right-hand corner is for; Doug put it there so if you don't agree with it you can report it to management.

Oh, chit. I forgot, you ARE management.

My bad. :smug:

By the way, David K, I DID meet you. I spent hours listening to you. You never STFU ...... once. I, and my better half walked away with two conclusions; you were the Main Dood of Baja Nomads, and you were, and still are, 2 lbs of b.s. in a one-pound-bag. IMHO.

Nothing's changed.

ron hubard died of a injection of liquid cocaine. Overdose of liquid cocaine from the pharmacy. taste of his own medicine. he payed a chemist to invent crack cocaine because medicle cocaine was to highly regulated. He felt powered cocaine was not addictive enough to gain control of people and their thoughts.

Not too far removed from the catholic church, evangelicals, born agains, and generally, hypocrites claiming their faith is the true faith. Protestants killing catholics in Belfast.
