Mahi Season in Gonzaga Bay?
Can anyone tell me when Mahi season is in the Gonzaga Bay area? I have fished there several times in October, and have yet to catch one. I hear fish
tales, but no luck so far. Thanks in advance!

October would seem late to me....In the Mulege area May-July seems to be the hot period...Lil further north might be later....I am seldom in Baja
Oct-dec ( too busy chasing critters) so cant display any expertise there....

One of those fish that have many names depending where you are!
USA (mainland): dolphinfish
HAWAII: mahi mahi
MEXICO: dorado
One of the most beautiful, best fighting, and great eating... all in one!

The blathering is just from you I am afraid to say... The topic is Mahi (short for Mahi Mahi), and as you clearly didn't know what that was, my reply
should have been an education for you?!

Now in southern California the fleet shortens the name and call them DoDos. Amazingly, any thread jacking, KIA, troll or generally anyone who is a
legend in his own shower, shares that moniker. You have to understand the context.
basautter I'm sending you a U2U with my experiences with Dorado in Bahia Gonzaga.

As to the original post, I have fished there many years and never have seen one (if they are around you often know it) much less caught one or heard
of one being caught. Though I'm sure the locals would know best!! From July/August on would be my bet as to "when"...

Cool photos DK! Is that mom in the foreground? Looks like she's implying with her thumb and finger that it's a tad smallish
Just messing with you.
We will be at Papa's soon and my wife loves fishing. She once tried to hand over her pole when she fatigued bringing in a sporty trigger. I told her
throw her pole in the water...I'm not bringing in her fish. She brought it in.
If I have any inclination she has one of those on her line like in your photos, I'm bringing it in! Then we'll know there's them fish in those waters!

Not at Gonzaga Bay but close. I saw a small dorado at Punta Final one year in August while free diving.

Many years ago, one of the locals told me that July and August are great for Dorado fishing near Gonzaga Bay.
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

The water seems to be a bit warmer these days but I would never ever spend time targeting Dorado at Gonzaga Bay. If they are around you'll know it
(or the locals will)(or the gill netters). Heading further south is your best bet.
