My favorite NORRA 1000 picture
The Cortez Rally portion of this year's NORRA Rally was run between Ensenada and Mexicali (corrected). There were only 14 competitors. The winning
car, the only finisher, was a Subaru Stationwagon. The team's engine builder and his wife also take and sell race photographs. They parked next to me,
outside of Vizcaino, (and fed me breakfast!).
Late in the afternoon, near our corner, we heard a big V8 struggling then quit a few hundred meters away. David took off in HIS Subaru wagon to lend a
hand. Finding no oil on the dipstick, he did the only remaining thing a good mechanic could do.

Sorry guy, not enough coffee! The start was indeed in Mexicali, and I just read the finish order, and only 12 vehicles finished the Cortez Rally. (If
I remember correctly) I was told the other two Rally Raid class cars cooked their clutches in the dunes or in mud.
Here's my choice for Big Huevos awards. The #19 1970 Husky 400 at the end of day two. (check out that suspension travel) and the #82 350 Honda twin of
the veterans team "Race for the Wounded" (check out his alloy left leg)

According to the tracking, the #19 Husky DNF'd within half dozen miles of the finish of today's stage. They are not shown as withdrawn at this point.
The #82 finished today's racing and are still leading one bike, another newer Honda 350, but they are 8.5 hours off the motorcycle lead! They are the
only entry in Super Vintage so when they finish, they win!
NORRA is reporting that the team bought a used truck in Loreto and were going to spend the night putting it's 350 in the orange 57 Chevy. Never say
die!!!

Live tracking now, at quarter to ten, is showing the 19 still in the Rally and trailing the 82 by 5-6 miles with a hundred left to go!
The '70 Husky doesn't generate electricity so here is their emergency lighting. A total loss system based on LEDs and an R/C model car battery! The
crew says it can give them hours of light if they get caught out.

The 82 is in Cabo, and after being stopped at Cabo Pulmo for a long time, the 19 is now rolling and just 10 miles from the finish. Who says you need
more than 3" of front fork travel on a dirt bike?
