What the heck is going on here?
I get that these are to summon help, but why are they specifically here? Has there been a problem with people dying in the desert in this area?
This was tower #7 of nine, scattered down Laguna Salada. This tower was on the west shore of the laguna, NE of Canyon Guadalupe.
At the top of the tower are solar panels, flags and flashing LEDs. The map near the push-button was illuminated.

The most in-famous incident was the death of 11 mexican soldiers while training for desert survival in 1996, not far from there.
Since then, almost every summer autorithies and search and rescue groups have to look for people going to guadalupe canyon, usually cars broke or got
stuck in the sand.
In july of 2012, 4 hikers lost their tracks and one of them died. 3 days later, another group of 70 people have to be rescued from the same place.
this same year another biker was lost and never found.

We saw some driving to the Pole Line Road in April...
There is a group that has or had put water containers marked with high flying flags to support the needs of illegal border crossers in our southern
desert of California.

They have been placed there to assist members of Jeep clubs when they all break down, en masse.

REAL Ford truck owners dont consider a Ranger, a Ford truck.
Rangers are simply MARKETED as a truck to compete in the TOY class.

See our trip report, it was a Bronco.
The Ranger had an issue with the tranny before the Pole Line Road section was traveled, so he (MICK) drove it back to Rio Hardy. John M stayed with
him in case it needed a tow.
But, you reminded me... it was two Fords that had issues of everyone who wanted to go!

These are not "to support the needs." They are to for emergency use. The coyotes are inhumane, throw people into the desert little prepared.
Humanitarians stock the emergency supplies....

I was confused, but then I realized that I'd missed this part of the Baja Nomads Terms of Use: "All threads, regardless of topic, shall eventually
evolve into a Toyota vs. Ford vs. Jeep vs. Chevy peeing contest."
Uh, OK. As you were ...

Depends on location of the sign itself; if it's anywhere near the Arizona border it could be Tohonto O'Odam.... I've seen similar script on road signs
in the area. Or, maybe the sign painter had a heat-stroke episode; forgot the Gott.

These last few photos are pretty harsh...or I should say, the reality they represent is harsh.

I see this was taken in the US. I've seen the Border Patrol drag around groups of tires to smooth sand, looking for footprints of people crossing the
border. I spoke to one Border guy who said they could tell the difference between Mexican and US shoe soles.
