Violent cities
List of the 50 most violent cities in the world was published yesterday. Mexico had 10 of them. The US 4, and not surprisingly most of the rest were
in Brazil or Columbia.

I found this article from January online. The biggest surprise to me is that my home town of New York City didn't make the cut.

Do you have the link? I posted the 50 most violent cities a few months back, and I'm wondering if there is a new list, or you're talking about the old
list?
BTW the FBI cautions against rankings like this, because there are many variable affecting crime, and the rankings are merely a quick choice made by
the data users who come out with these lists. The lists are interesting, but I take them with a grain of salt, and you know, drugs or cartels
activities are responsible for the high homicides rates, which are probably isolated to certain bad areas of the cities.

From the link I put up before:
I only listed the top three most violent cities, and all the cities from Mexico or the USA that made the list. They are in reverse order:
------------------------

48. Torreon Mexico, had 27.81 homicides per 100,000 residents.
45. Tijuana, Mexico, had 29.90 homicides per 100,000 residents.
43. Chihuahua City, Mexico, had 33.29 homicides per 100,000 residents
41. Victoria, Mexico, had 33.91 homicides per 100,000 residents.
40. Baltimore had 33.92 homicides per 100,000 residents.
34. Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, had 34.92 homicides per 100,000 residents.
31.Obregon, Mexico had 37.71 homicides per 100,000 residents.
28. New Orleans had 39.61 homicides per 100,000 residents.
27.Juarez, Mexico, had 39.94 homicides per 100,000 residents.
24. Culiacan , Mexico, had 42.17 homicides per 100,000 residents.

Interesting that all of the top violent cities in the USA have a professional NFL team ... And the powers that be want to bring a team to Los Angeles? No thanks!
I wonder just how many of the cities in other areas have a professional fútbol team?
Truth generally lies in the coordination of antagonistic opinions

Bad Areas
Once again, I note that my years-old idea (dating back to the "Thomas-Guide" times) would be for Fodor (or others) to publish Tourist
"Def-Con" (Level 1-5) maps breaking down every city into zones of violent crime. The prudent tourist could then navigate his way through with the
least probability of harm.
With the information now so readily available, it seems more like a winning idea than ever.
As an added feature, they could include zones of relative) poverty and affluence, although most likely, the two zones (poverty and danger) would (more
or less) coincide.
Be AWARE. And travel safely.
Leave the natives to thrash and bash their own.
