Directions to blvd 2000
I am going to be coming back from Rosarito on July 7th. I wanted a different way to come back and avoid San Ysidro. I can't seem to find the rigght
directions to BLVD 2000. Someone said it would be a better choice at 11:00am on Tuesday morning. Anyone have directions from the toll road to get to
BLVD 2000?
Even a bad day in Baja is better then a good day somewhere else!

If you are in Rosarito, be on the FREE road south... in a couple of miles you will pass the Baja Studios (formerly Foxploration) at Popotla (where
Titanic and other movies were filmed)... just past the studios is a signal intersection... that is the end of CORREDOR 2000 (may be signed for
Tecate/Mexicali). In 18 miles you will pass over the free Tecate highway by El Florido.
It is a free 4 lane highway that ends on the Tecate toll highway (just before the toll station if you continue to Tecate)... You well go west here for
about 4 miles to the border entrance road north (Garita Otay), in 1 mile you will be at the Otay Mesa border.
If you are northbound from Ensenada, there is a direct connection from the toll highway to the Corredor 2000, a toll gate on it is payment for the
portion of the Ensenada toll highway you had just used, not the Corredor 2000. Otherwise the free road can be used, and is how southbound traffic goes
to Ensenada from the Corredor 2000 (you can hop onto the toll highway a few miles south).

Possible variation of what David K said:
Instead of turning West to Tecate Hwy 2 after 18 miles, you can continue straight for another 10 miles and then turn West to Hwy 2. Then turn right
to Juventud, right to Humboldt, left to Blvd Aztecas - and you're in the border waiting line.
Dial Garita de Otay in Google Maps and you'll understand.
PS: Ops, forgot that they're coming NOT from Ensenada. Sorry, David.

Route via Hwy 201
Your suggestion was to turn West to Hwy 2 Tijuana-Tecate, correct?
I was thinking - turning West to Hwy 2/2D Tijuana-Mexicali, then right to Blvd Aztecas. Years ago turn-off to Aztecas was closed, and if this is
still the case - take the next right to Juvenitad Ote and then right to Humboldt.

maybe someone could make a little video like bruce leech did for crossing the border...that was GREAT
these generic maps are an example but its much different looking in real life when you are traveling 60mph

Bob - all maps are generic, that's why they are maps. Google Maps in the link above have an option called "street view". In the right bottom you'll
see the icon of a little yellow man. Drag it to where you want (zoom in the map first), until it looks like pinned up and a little picture shows,
drop the man and a big picture opens.
The problem - as usual - is how current the picture is. In Baja things change often. There used to be a right turn from Hwy D2 to Blvd Aztecas one
mile from the border, then there was some construction blocking the turn, and I don't know if they "improved" the turn or closed it permanently. If
closed, then go few more blocks and turn right at the sign "Aeropuerto", and then right to Humboldt. Pics won't help, the whole area is a faceless
border town brew, no landmarks.
Here is the turn that I'm talking about : from D2 to Aztecas. The guy in checkered shirt is looking towards the border.
There is only one other turn - from the North end of the Corredor/Blvd 2000 to Hwy D2, it's simple.

Bob, I did post all the signs I could snap a photo of along the Corredor 2000 in past posts here on Nomad. It is just one road and once you are on it,
you stay on it the full length if you are going between 2-D and 1. The signage getting to it on either end has been terrific in the past. As Alm said,
things change often, however.

Yep. Corredor is one road.
And two right turns: off-ramp to D2 - huge sign "Tijuana, San Diego", and to Blvd Aztecas - where waiting line forms.
Does anybody know whether this second turn to Aztecas open?

I have read reports that the SY crossing is much faster since they increased the lanes. For someone like myself, who seeks to use I-5 North, it would
be a blessing. We've used Tecate the past few years, but our trip NOB is a pain in the culo.

To go anywhere except the Tijuana downtown northbound border... at least in the past. Otay was often just as long, so like howodd, we often went the
extra miles to use Tecate, northbound.

The OP wanted to go through Otay. They didn't say whether they needed I-5, but even if they do - it's not too far of their way.
From where Corredor leaves Hwy 1, and to where I-905 joins I-5, this route is 13 miles longer than Hwy 1 to SY and again to the same I-5/I-905
junction.
Driving time is the same - longer route but fewer tall stops.
Cost is the same or less - more gas but fewer tolls.
Border wait at Otay - reportedly - is slightly less than SY, not much.
Navigating is easier (a lot easier), only 2 right turns.
On the balance, looks marginally better.

We used Tecate all through the Tj. construction. Since the cops have got so bad not so much anymore. the Tj.crossing times have returned to a
reasonable wait time so we go that way now.
in 14 years of regular crossing I have never liked the Otay crossing.

Well, J.P. that is why they make Fords, Chevy's and Dodges in various colors......you can have your choice.
I have been using Otay for about 10 years now. suits my needs and I don't have to drive through downtown TJ. It's simple for me off of Hwy 1 using
Corridor 2000, three right turns and I am at the gate. I can get to the 805 or the 5 with no problems.....plus it saves me on tolls.

Inquiring mind.is the reason I asked. Of all three I still like Tecate best that's why we have a getaway place in east county.

You can use this website to get an idea of the best days and times to cross at the various BC crossings. SY is certainly better now than before. The
line graphs are showing average times. The bar charts further down the page show mins and maxes for a given day/time. Tuesdays and Wednesdays around 6
- 7 PM are your best bet at SY
