Amazon Mexico

now that Amazon has a presence in Mexico - is it necessary to create a new account (different from the US account)?

I registered with Amazon Mexico this morning.
Used my Amazon USA e mail and password and it worked just fine.

It tells you what is imported and what is not.

Pretty cool.

Amazon Mexico is still in beta. Better wait awhile to download.

When Amazon Mexico becomes viable, they should take over mail delivery.

FYI, We have been using Correos de Mexico for almost 25 years now. We have a mail package sent to us about once a month. We also have any number of small packages (never over 100 bucks value) sent to us from China. The number of packages lost by Correos in 25 years is cero (0). The normal delivery time from the US or China is about the same - 3 to 5 weeks. If it goes beyond 5 weeks and we really need it usually a visit to the PO gets results. You can get a tracking number which MAY help but we have never had to use this hammer. One time a package of mail sent from the US in November did not arrive here until Feb. but that is very rare. The moral of the story? Correos won't open your package and take chit and they WILL deliver eventually. Oh yeah, a small propina every time you get a package helps a bunch. Lastly do not forget that the 11th of November is el dia del cartero. (postman's day) Make sure you remember your cartero so he will remember you.

After thought, I should have posted this somewhere else?

I'm still waiting for deliveries from twenty years ago. Maybe if I gave that little propina, but to whom?

Will they, i.e. China, also take over local manufacturing? You know, what Amazon has become lately, not much different from Ebay. A rhetorical question, I think...

I'll tell you how bad, Correos de Mexico is. Even CFE and Telmex dont trust them with delivering their bills in our area. Not even a piece of paper.

I cant imagine trusting them with a package, on a regular basis.

We did, once. It took three months from the US, we got it ripped open and poorly repackaged, and it had sustained water damage. It was simply used books, so no real loss. It was a test, anyway. A big fail.

The postmarks indicated it had made it to the Mexican border in three days in the US. The rest of the time, it spent bouncing around in Mexico, somewhere........

I don't make this stuff up. Correos has never failed to deliver - ever. To be sure we have developed a very friendly relationship with our cartero, asking about his family, thanking him humbly for his service and occasionally rewarding him with 20 pesos or so for bringing us a package. He was initially a little gruff but we just kept treating him kindly and now he treats us with respect and friendship too. Maybe you people need to change your attitude. These people work for extremely low wages and have no incentive to satisfy a cranky complaining old fool from the other side. We treat our street sweeper and garbage and water people the same way. Guess what, our garbage people take away stuff they really should not, our water guy comes in the house and changes out the garafon and the street sweeper sweeps our driveway. Get to know your helpers.

I fail to see how treating your correos guy kindly would have much to do with insuring delivery, after all the guy isn't picking it up at the border and driving it down to La Paz. For years we had a PO box at the Correos office in Todos Santos and it was hit and miss, we usually got things eventually, but there were a few times that they never made it, once we received a xmas card in July that had been sent to London before it came to Todos. I certainly would not rely on them for anything valuable or time sensitive. As a side note, don't ever use Baja Pak, there are a bunch of thieves that work there. Send a package and an empty box shows up at the other end.

What's the incentive for the extremely low wage earners delivering to those of us who aren't ''cranky complaining old fools?''

Are you writing that if we get bad mail service, we need to change our attitudes?

You probably don't mean to write derisive and demeaning posts but it might come across that way to some people.

OK...I'm willing to learn. How much are they paid for doing their job? List everything...cash...Social Security....vacation pay....all of it, please.
Then...tell us how you know this.
Thanks.

Just curious - does this mean people on Amazon Mexico can buy Kindle books that are on Amazon USA?

Who knows at this point. I do know businesses separated at the border may, or may not recognize the structure of the other. Home Depot credit cards aren't accepted here, but Costco membership cards are.
Is Amazon Mexico even up and running yet?
