gas in Mulege
I was just told that both gas stations in Mulege were out of gas. Does anyone know an arrival date for more gas or if gas is widely available in
Santa Rosalia?

The two stations in Mulege are owned by the same person and the shortage seems to be only in Mulege. Santa Rosalia had gas at all stations yesterday.

just curious as to how this ended up in "baja rentals available"?! jajaja...
if someone actually DOES want a b&b rental (a single and a suite with private bath) in Rosarito, just go look me up on Facebook as The Peace

welcome to the whacky world of Nomads cliff! There are a couple points that I would like to address...first off...make sure you talk to a few people
to get a clearer picture of the "truth" of the matter. Gossip and misunderstandings are rampant here. You may very well get a different story from
each person you talk to.
Gas issues can be caused by a variety of things so I always tell people ALWAYS keep your tanks topped up because sure as chite, there wont be any when
you need it! Gas shortages are caused if there is an event or holiday as stations dont seem to plan for those so they run out...or the power is off
and they cant pump...or the big delivery gas truck broke down...or the ferry isnt running due to high waves so the trucks cant get over...or the
station owner forgot to pay his bill...or...or...or...it usually doesn't last very long though...good practice to have a full jerry jug or two around.

Shari, A case in point. when I stayed at your camp in Asuncion last fall, I filled up at the Pemex next to La Sirena, and there was a tanker at the
other set of pumps.
He was not delivering gas, he was filling up! I don't know where he was going to take that gasoline, but he was still pumping when I drove by again
in about an hour.
How do you plan around events like that? (I know, keep a can or two around)
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

perhaps the gas was going to the fish camps?
the thing about Baja is to Expect the Unexpected on all fronts...ya just never know what the heck is going to happen or what you may see from one day
to the next...which is why it is so entertaining here...some people get frustrated...but it's best to suck it up and see it as entertainment that
keeps you on your toes...plus all the "inconveniences" or trouble often end up making those priceless baja memories!
a couple other related issues are with money...one often expects to be able to get money out of bank machines as as fate would often have it...when
you need it...the machine is out of money...or the servers are down...or the machine is out of order...so always have a stash of cash around.
another good one...restaurants that have signs they are open...hahaha...but they might be at the store...or picking up a kid from school...or gone

The Pemex in town is open today. Maybe they were recalculating the pumps, yeah right. 25% overcharge is was not enough for her?
The highway was closed for an hour or so, due to heavy rains, once again.

Cliff, a full time Mulege resident for over 20 years, is on the road. He is a newbie to the forums, but not to " the Baja". He owns and operates www.clementinemulege.com/ Clementines Bed and Breakfast and several rentals.

you cannot say this unless you calibrate a container and document the shortage...
I've done it several times on the highway Pemex at mulege and its always correct...I buy a lot of diesel and gas there...the people that work there
are very good to me
I don't know about the town unit...I don't use thatI bought gas and diesel yesterday...lots of fuel in mulege...they haul their own gas from santa
rosalia
there are lots of vacationers right now...and mulege is selling lots of gas...
some motels are filled every night...families with kids and Europeans are traveling...it's summer
this old "urban myth" that you get screwed at the pump isn't true anymore...test it...but calibrate your container
the containers are incorrect sometimes

Bought gas at the one pump station in downtown Mulege on July 23. Could not detect any dishonest readings based on what my gauge indicated vs. the
liters pumped, that day. Will detail my notes in a trip report.

a couple of weeks ago I filled 2, 5 gal mex jugs at the highway Pemex, later got 2 jugs in San Juanico. SJ was 200 pesos less and they charge more for
gas there. This happened to everyone in our group as we had all filled up in Mulege, in town and the highway. It is well documented on Fb, 2 or 3
times a month. Ask any fisherman or taxi driver. Even the attendants admit it and they have no control over the pump regulators.
btw, it has rained almost everyday here for a week, ahhh, but you probably won't believe that either, bad image and all.

let's do the math...
you filled 2 five gallon gas cans in mulege
the same 2 five gallon gas cans were 200 pesos less to fill in SJ
1 gallon = 3.78541 liters
price of gas this month is 13.57 pesos a liter
200 pesos get's you 14.74 extra liters which is 3.89 extra gallons
that's ALMOST 4 GALLONS!!!
that's a lot of gas...remember we are talking about 10 gallons total
I would know if I was shorted that much the first time
i'm not saying you didn't get screwed BUT you need to calibrate your tanks BEFORE you state on the internet that you are being shorted
I've contacted penn & teller in las vegas to ask them how this can happen...not that I don't believe you : )
have you ever heard of a pump dispensing TOO much gas for the posted price...I've seen it
oh yea it did not rain EVERY DAY in mulege

on Monday I bought gas and diesel...when I parked to get my factura the attendant came over and was going to return some of my payment...he forgot I
bought some gas...the attendants are pretty honest...

Yes, you are correct, it was only 100 pesos.
And I said ` almost` everyday, like 5 out of 7

Many years ago, we had a guy in San Lucas Cove who was a real hothead and one day he was about 3 cars in front of me at the station in Santa Rosalia.
He started screaming about getting shorted on his gas and tried to pay the attendant less than what it showed on the meter. By pure chance, the
vehicle behind him just happened to be a PROFECO who pulled out a metered can and did a measurement. Sure enough it was short. (I know, big
surprise) and they proceeded to shut down the station. For the next couple of months we had to drive to Mulege to get gas for the boats and vehicles.
Mr. Big Mouth got told by the other residents that he should shut his mouth about deliveries in Mulege or we would end up going to Loreto or Vizcaino
for fuel.
Bob, is absolutely right, calibrate a can and then see if you are being shorted and then you can correctly post the amounts. I have friends who are
locals and they tell me it is very important to be able to back up your statements with facts because they take slander very seriously in Mexico and I
know of several people who were deported for that type of behavior.

A couple of years ago we went to the highway Pemex in Mulege with a 4 liter jug, we stopped the pump at 4 liters. No surprise, the pumps 4 liters were
quite a bit under the calibrated 4 liters marked on the jug. A Mexican liter is definitely smaller then a Canadian liter, at least when it comes to
gas  .
