I frequently fill up my Durmax at the marina in Santa Rosalia. the draw back is you need to have the exact amount of money, he has no change.

No, the price is usually higher. The marina at Santa Rosalia charges 15% surcharge which is added on to the fuel bill. Secondly, it fills from the same truck as the stations downtown.. San Felipe had a marine diesel station in the old days and it was cheaper and actually had marine diesel.

I think you are hoping for farm fuel, but they put die in that stuff now.

Uh? I already burn "Farm"Diesel...Its a nice Orange color, complements my Bronco shirt......I also burn Biodiesel, but get less mileage and power....Question was out of curiosity actually....When we had the big diesel boat up here, we turned in receipts at EOY and got refunded all the applicable road taxes.....Trying to rationalize a diesel boat for Baja...So far makes no economic sense.....Thanks

How much is diesel around there generally?

What is the reason to add dye to diesel?

When I am in CA, I buy 'Off Road' diesel for my tractor. The price includes state sales tax, but not the the road tax, which is supposed to go to highway maintenance. I don't know how much the difference is, but I think it is 35 cents or so.

The dye is put in it to determine if it is being used in vehicles on the road without paying the tax. Commercial trucks are probably the only ones getting checked.

Everybody pays taxes, the tax per gallon on "Farm non hiway use diesel" is less because the portion for hiway maintenance is (theoreticly) waived. Truckers generally pay the same for diesel as you pay for your Mercedes..

Just a side note..
Off road diesel, farm diesel or red diesel as we call it not only has the red dye but a tracer in it... State patrol and port of entry or roadside weigh stations officers have a unit that can tell if you are using off road in your tank by just running it by your tanks... In Colorado the fine is huge if you are caught along with other penalties... Since off road diesel does not pay the state and fed road taxes like the stuff you get out of the normal pumps.
some suppliers of off road require a form filled out with your why you are getting off road and what you are using it in...
Not a huge difference in price even then.....
we are in the $2.50 to $2.65 per gallon for regular diesel still..
What is the cost in BAJA????

The 35 cent road tax is what the bicyclists pay for the bike lanes they are putting on all new highways in Baja. NOT

Last Christmas I filled our truck/tailer up at the Puerto Escondido dock pump per suggestions from local snowbirds. As I recall same price, same diesel but it was thought to be less hassle and possibly a more honest pour then the highway stations.
I have no knowledge about any MX fuel road tax or refund.

Commercial trucks may get checked. I have known of many construction jobs being checked (catching the construction pick up trucks iillegally refueling form the fuel used by heavy equipment).

Did you notice the price of diesel has dropped way below gasoline here in gringolandia. I think my next vehicle will be diesel. Too bad Toyota won't sell a diesel 4Runner. Anyone know of a good off-road capable diesel SUV?

Here in so cal a gallon of diesel is $1 less than regular gasoline. Diesel Costs 25% less than gas, and has much better mileage per volume-- all of us should drive noisy smelly diesels.

Re jeep,... been there, done that,... I won't get fooled again!
