Don't know. All I know is last year an ocho of Pacifico was $6.75 and today it is $5. Still 88 pesos for an ice cold ocho. Possibly Gov't regulations on cervesa?
Gas is relativly the same as last year as is food. Home Depot products are the same. Glad I waited a year longer to build as my project bid is the same as this time last year except the project is costing 25% less....It's kinda like free beer! More cervesa por favor!

Factors, effecting circumstances, which may or may not be impacted by conditions often or frequently cause fluctuations...depending on the lunar cycle of course....And then there is of course the Cerveza variable..after 5 or 7, it just don't matter...

oil prices are falling. Now under $40/barrel and due to go even lower when Iran sanctions are lifted. Many reasons among them recession (less demand) in China. China is now one of the economies that drives the world.

US dollar is tied to the price of oil. Lower oil means the dollar buys more, including more oil and of course more MX pesos.

MX's gross national product has also declined to 2% from 2.5

All this means peso is going down like a rock. I see no end in sight, perhaps around 20? I am not "going long" in pesos just yet. What I am doing is trying to find the place to buy pesos where I get closest to 17 AND NEVER PAY IN US DOLLARS anywhere in MX unless the RATE is posted and you confirm that you are getting that rate. For example Walmart has posted 16.5, Commercial Mexicana 16.6 and I'm only getting about 16 from my ATM so those are good values. PEMEX also has a posted rate at the station in the 16 range BUT PEMEX short changes you on liters so I usually buy gas in US.

Rampant inflation in MX will soon follow. I am already seeing food prices (the ultimate harbinger of inflation, along with gas) going up in MX stores. For example a package of carne desembrada was 79 pesos, now 86.

First of all, the original question has got to be one of the silliest yet; JoeTroller strikes again with his usual Mexico bashing (subtly, of course).

Secondly, anyone who has spent any time in Baja for a number of years has seen the prices go up every time the peso goes up, sometimes on less than a weekly basis. I've seen the little price-stickers on foodstuffs sometimes 5-deep, one on top of the last, when the peso has devalued rapidly.

Lastly, anyone who really can answer that question to begin with would probably win a Nobel Prize for economics.

I agree, and there are already many recent threads on this subject in this month alone:

IMHO It is no so much that the MX peso is going down as the US $ is increasing it's value relative to other currencies such as Yuan and Ruble. Except that many products in Mexico come from US but those that don't or are regulated are now lower compared to the US$. As well, while Mexico is strong, has resource capital, corruption remains a huge drag on the economy that affects the large population.

To me it seems like a good time to make needed purchases and payments such as home improvement and enjoy Baja.

a normal tourist CAN NOT get 17.1 right now...
maybe 16.1 or 16.2

still that's a good rate...
time to cross the border and vacation in mexico

against last year for every $100 you get in pesos
you get an extra $25 to spend

pretty good deal...at least right now

??? If you only get 16 when the peso is 17 are "you" saying you were getting 13 when the peso was 13 a year ago? It does not matter what it IS you get. It is all relative. The price for goods here in BCS is still the same. I don't understand the logic that if you have to give the ATM or bank a 1/2 persentage that it even make a difference. It is still goods for goods!!

Going out to get a cold ocho for 88 pesos....same as last year just 25% cheaper!
