Another quick truck question...

Hey guys so I have a quick numbers question regarding truck capabilities.

I'm currently looking at a 2007 ram 1500 5.7 hemi.

I have three motorcycles totalling ~1000 pounds. I weigh 200 and I'll have 200 pounds of gear. I need to drop on off the 450 pound bike in SF, 1000 miles from where iI currently live. I plan to get a small trailer before that trek, probably 14 foot and weighing no more than 3000 pounds.

Once I SF my 2 remaining bikes will only weigh 600 pounds.

Will the truck I mentioned be able to handle this? I'm looking to avoid having to move up to 3/4 ton.

Thanks all for your advise.

Tony

I have hauled and pulled more weight than that with a GMC 1/2 ton, 350ci. 4x4. Will your trailer have a braking system? Slowing down for hazards could be dicey with that much weight pushing you.

And by the way, there are no quick truck questions. This will go on for pages!

Hah awesome information that's what I'm looking for. The trailer would be a 14 foot travel camper for the hound dog and myself. So I assume they have breaks right?

I'm looking forward to many responses from the gurus :)

I had a 16 foot camp trailer that I pulled just fine, no trailer brakes, but I don't think it was anywhere near three thousand pounds. I did not haul it all the way to Baja either.

I am hardly the Guru, but someone else here will give you a better idea of what Baja ready is.

I don't think it'll weigh that much either just wanted to be over rather than under.

I've lived in Baja for a while but this time I'm actually looking to move near playa del Carmen. I figure it should be fine, I just feel a bit nervous about the primary drop off of the heaviest bike. Seems near maxed out payload with the addition of a trailer. I'd put mymy gear in the trailer to lighten the load and also not have the water tanks filled on the drive to SF

Funny Thing

Yesterday a guy showed up to look at the boat I'm working on (24 Seasport KAD 43 Volvo Penta) and I knew him around 8 years ago when I worked on his Skipjack..walk to my truck to get him a biz card and he asked me the yr of truck..said he bought the same yr truck new and was a 1500 Dodge ram and had All bad issues with it and sold it after 4 yr's. and said to me he has a fleet of Dodge 2500..said from the engine back completely different parts are used...something to think about...But,If not towing or weight in the back, its bounces like a mad horse..on some roads I think about buying a hard hat..

I towed a 21' Grady White boat with a 93 GMC 1500 2WD for 15 years. Loaded, the total weight including trailer was 8000+lbs. Didn't go up the grades very fast but it did the job.
