mx drivers license toll roads military check points
buenas dias! ok..i read about having 2 cars and a mx drivers license, and only needing 1 ins policy for both cars. did a search. can not find info.
also,how many tolls and whats the $$ amount btw san carlos,sonora and Ensenada? any military checkpoints? that's all for today and I thankyou so much

Mexican drivers don't qualify for driver's license insurance. They've always had to pay the big pesos [expensive] for coverage. that's why so many go
without it, and hit 'n run is a national sport.
Anyway, you may be caught up in this........I don't know.

In most Mexican jurisdictions liability insurance is now mandatory, however being Mexico........
On a Mexican licensed vehicle liability insurance is about $200.00 USD per year and full coverage on a $30,000 car runs about $1,000 per year.
I don't know about the toll road as we take Hwy 5 now.

thx for you replies. I have my mx auto ins w/ lewis and lewis. satisfied . but I read on this forum last week that w/ a mx driver license you could
insure 2 cars on one policy. if I get no replies I will contact L&L on Monday and write w/ my findings

Here is a site that gives point to point KM, driving times and tolls.
Just enter the starting state and town then the destination state and town........easy

1095KM
11hours 20 min. drive time &
$475 in tolls............

On my Mexican new truck Full coverage (Mex Ins,Cant get tourist Ins with Mex DL) 750$ year also includes USA full coverage,and towing both country's.
Liberality MEX/USA less then 100$

There should be 2 military checkpoints you would go through, 1 on 15D and 1 after Mexicali on highway 2 before you go up the grade..that one they were
very serious, went through boxes and bags in back and underneath the front seats, glove compartments, center counsel, everywhere....

I would consider taking Hwy 5 south from the Mexicali area, then Hwy 3 west to Ensenada
There "may" be a checkpoint at the intersection of Hwy 3 and Hwy 5, just north of San Felipe, and there is always one on Hwy 3 at Ojos Negros.

I wouldn't concern yourself with the military checkpoints.
Just make sure you have good tires and a spare for your trailer, check/grease the wheel bearings, the trailer lights all work and you have the
equipment and knowledge to change a flat tire

thankyou Bajaguy. will have all checked by my mechanic before departing. not so good on the tire changing. I think I will have the mechanic give me a
refresher course. so the check points are mellow in Baja? in Sonora,they are a little sensitive. and at the nogales border entering az they usually
pull people over to secondary if they have a trailer. even if they have those little top of the car carriers.

I do not think that I was ever asked for my drivers license at any military checkpoint.

In 28 months full time in Baja California, I don't think I have ever spent more than 45 seconds at a military check point.

from san carlos Sonora to Nogales/border, there is one military check pt. they are usually pretty tranquila...but
they LOVE their new x-ray machine. like a kid with a new toy
