Punta Chivato camping facilities
I'm planning a road trip down Baja in February 2016. I want to stop in Punta Chivato. I'll be car camping with two kids. Are there any campgrounds, RV
parks, or restroom facilities in Punta Chivato area?
I did a 6 week camping trip through Baja in Nov/Dec 2014, so I have a pretty good idea of generally what to expect in Baja.
Any help is appreciated!

Chivato camping is almost nil. Small beach camp with NO facilities, not even a pit toilet that I know of..... small and hard to find.
Nearest one with toilets and showers is San Lucas Cove RV park; ten bucks a day, hot showers, flush toilets, some campsites have running water.......
no beach though. Shallow cove, lots of sting rays. Almost all the shoreline spaces are permanent residents; a few are rentals.
Next 'beach' camp with amenities would be Naranjo about 8 miles south of Mulege. All palapas are now converted into walled-in casitas (one-two room
houses), some have showers, some don't. Toilets are available nearby. There may be a spot or two to set up a tent camp.
I don't have a BUCKET LIST, but I do have a F***- IT LIST a mile long!

Yeah, I stayed in Campo San Lucas on my trip last fall. The residents there were really great, but yes a LOT of stingrays. Really hoping to find
something at Chivato, but I see that the resort there has also closed. Hmm.

grab a solar shower and a port a potty and go to Punta Chivato. It is beautiful and it will not be crowded. Sea lions on the small rock islands, great
swimming, dunes, kids will love it.

Another option would be Santa Inez beach just off hwy 1 south of the Punta Chivato turnoff and about 6 miles north of Mulege...would need a 4 wheel
drive possible but is a GORGEOUS stretch of beach...and it's FREE!...dig your own potty and bring a solar shower...you can literally camp right on the
beach...we love it there...and miles of beach combing with not another soul in sight...
dyslexia is never having to say you\'re yrros.

Or rent a house in Punta Chivato, and stay a while. They're relatively inexpensive, and every now and then it's nice to get some facilities.

Actually the camping beach is pretty large and there are two right next to each other. Being there are few campers you should have your choice of
locations. I'm sure you could make arrangements to shower and use the rest room at the Hotelito/Restaurant. If you have trouble finding the camping
beach just ask and any home or person you see. I spent 2 seasons there before building a home/casita. I think it would be well worth your journey to
check it out. The little hotel is reasonable and opens tomorrow. Here are a couple Google Earth images. Couldn't find a photo.

Don't know about registering but it might not be bad to see what is offered if you did. If not they'll come down and ask you. There is a VHF radio in
the restaurant You could give me a shout if you need something or just visit.

keep my contact if you want.... we have a place in Chivato, rock wall fence, pad with cover and bano shower, toilet... one row back from the
beachfront properties...
the pila blew off with hurricane Odile but if we get it repaired you might be able to land there in Feb as we are headed back north late Jan or early
feb...
will depend on if we get the repairs done...
just another possible option..

Well, don't anyone be thinking that stingrays avoid the PC camping beach. They can be thick in there, as well.
But not very likely in February.
The water will likely not be swimmable without a wetsuit, unless you can handle temps in the low-mid 60s F.
One other caution; when the winds blow at above 25 mph, a fine, silica dust can be kicked up from the basic beach sand. Not pleasant to breathe. I
would recommend setting up back from the sand, nearer the cliffs, IF you suspect strong winds will kick up. Play on the beach, retreat to camp when
the winds blow.
Glad to hear that El Hotelito is re-opening.
There is also a gal (is Juanita her name?) who serves good breakfasts, outdoors or indoors, at her casa. Her area is a few hundred yards south of El
Hotelito, on the same side of that same street. I would call it walkable in February from the camping beach; maybe 1/4-1/2 mile?

Her name is Dona Julia. I think Juanita is her daughter. I've only eaten there once, but really enjoyed the food.

Thanks, Carlosg. I had seen those pics. I am primarily interested in what the beach looked like closer to Casa Grande and Hotel Hacienda Punta
Chivato, where our house is. Most of the sand is gone now, but I have seen pics from year past where there was a lot of sand.
