Accomodations. Reservations for large quad group? San Felipe to Cabo
Hi. We are group of 11 quadding from San Felipe to Cabo. Planning Alfonsinas, BOLA, San Ignacio, Loreto, Puerto San Carlos and La Paz for stops.
Leaving Felipe on the 16th of January.
Given the need for 5 rooms at each stop, do u think we will have any problems getting rooms with no reservations? Given that timetables can change,
do not want to commit to dates etc...
Other than Alfonsinas, any recommendations at the other stops for hotels?
Thanks

You should make reservations for a group that large.
It it not uncommon for Alfonsinas to be fully booked. Most of the areas you mention have multiple options for lodging but the best places fill up
first.

we are off the beaten path and pretty flexible with days.
it would be great to share our part of the world with your group.
price includes breakfast and Les is famous for his Polish eggs! Our restaurant on the beach is very relaxing and beautiful after a long ride. You
might want to head to Bahia Asuncion first and then follow the coast down to us? From us head over to San Ignacio and I can make the reservation there
when you are ready to move on.

Have a great trip - Blanca and Les
edit to add that LA HUERTA seems to be a good place in San Ignacio.

Small towns like San Ignacio have several places to overnight - and all relatively close together. In larger towns, accommodations are more numerous.
If you have to find more than one hotel (Plan B), it shouldn't be much of a problem to re-group for meals and departure.

I would make a reservation. Its an easy call, and its no fun having to stay in crappy place because you did not book the good place.
Just call ahead to reserve one or 2 days in advance, you probably dont need to book weeks ahead of time in mid Jan.

Most of the places you mentioned will not be a problem for getting rooms except Alfonsinas. San Felipe, BOLA, San Ignacio, Loreto and La Paz all have
plenty of hotels. San Carlos I don't know.

There are many more experts on your question than me, since I don't live on Baja.
But I sure would love to hear about your route and other logistics associated with your trip. What percentage of the trip is on pavement vs. dirt? Do
you have a support vehicle that will be carrying personal supplies, fuel, mechanical parts, etc.? I would imagine you'd have to.

I've read the No Wimps Trail is in pretty rough shape so are going to bypass it. Trying to get from BOLA to San Ignacio in one day and the NWT would
take too long. Gonna head down towards El Arco from San Fransquiti.
Logistics and trail route:
Have a truck driven by a friend hauling 5 quads and 3 side-by-sides down from Vancouver to San Felipe. We are flying down to PalmSprings to meet
truck.Truck loosely following us to Cabo and turn transporting bikes back. Riders are flying home from Cabo.
Planning 7 or 8 days and expect to hotel each night. With 3 SxS's, should be able to carry most of what we need. Each will have a spare tire and rim,
tubes, belts etc....one guy in the group is a mechanic and we all have at least 10 years quading experience and do most of our own maintenance. Each
will be packing 5 extra gallons with the SxS'S packing 10. Should give us a good 200 mile range.
Route will loosly be San Felipe, Gonzaga, BOLA via Calamajue, San Ignacio via El Arco, Loreto via San Juanico-La Purisma-Comandu, San Carlos on
Pacific Coast, La Paz and then East Cape road into Cabo.
Not planning on much slab except between San Felipe and Gonzaga and where necessary from trails/roads end into towns or gas stations?
Using MotionX HD GPS in Ipad Mini with waterproof case. Have downloaded previous GPS routes and placed 100's of waypoints from previous rides. Moto
Vaqueres trip report in Advrider is excellent and is loosely the route we will follow. I have the 132 GB Ipad with built-in GPS and have downloaded
high def Google Earth maps of the whole Baja. Makes looking at options to travel very easy. Also have the good old AAA Baja paper road map.

San Carlos is a chit hole as I fish out of there often. Try Lopez Mateos and get ahold of me via u2u if you would like to stay at Mangroveinnbaja.com.
Private, secure and right on the estuary. Only 15 miles from San Carlos. You will be much happier

Sounds like a fun trip !! Some of those days are pretty aggressive. (depending on skill level). BOLA to San Igncaio is a long day, San Igncaio to
Loreto is a long day, Loreto to La Paz is a very long day!!
As previously stated Alfonsinas would be my only accommodation concern. Otherwise wide open. Pro-Tip.. Take Camping gear just incase

I agree....camping gear is great to have in case you get stuck out on the trail. Sometimes it happens when you don't expect it!

I have ridden that route a number of times on dirtbikes.....riding quads on the highway will be a bit of an issue for you guys re: speed and
traffic.....dirtbikes can do the slab way better than quads...(SXS better)....keep that in mind between Vizcaino and San Ignacio for
instance....unless you are riding west of the highway for that section...
Just sayin'.....
Have fun.....

Lots of good info above. Here are a few more to consider:
1. Pick places with secure parking and/or all night security. Bring locks and cables or chains for your quads.
2. Make reservations! Nothing worse than getting into town after dark and trying to herd that large group from place to place.
3. Mid January is early whale watching season and Cataviņa, San Ignacio, Guerrero Negro, and Puerto San Carlos often fill up.
4. Try Mar Y Arena in Puerto San Carlos. They can handle your group size, right on the water, good restaurant, and they will add a night watchman at
your request.
You have a pretty aggressive schedule, add a few days if you can. Bikes break, guys get tired, #%^** happens. Maybe add a rest/maintenance day in
Loreto. Have fun.

Thanks for all the informative replies. Plan on avoiding slab where possible. Will try and make reservations a day or two in advance. All our quads
are 800's and capable of 60 mph in 2wd. Security is at the top of our list and with a large group should be able to pay alittle extra for a watchman.
Have our truck and trailer meeting us each night so if any break downs or tired guys we can load "em up. Got the route all GPS'd up and ready to go.
10 week count down.
