Asked for FMM by "marine police" in Ensenada
For the first time that I can recall, I was asked to produce my FMM.
I was on a fishing charter out if Ensenada this morning. After a phone of hours on the water, we were approached by the "marine police" (I don't know
who they are exactly). We were asked to produce our fishing licenses and ID. The only other charter client was a mexican national. I was asked to
produce my passport and FMM. I explained that I had both, but in my car. We were told to go back and get them. We did, but never saw the marine
police again.
It would have been interesting to hear their take on my FMM from flying into Loreto in June. I kept it because I drove back, and have "used" it ever
since.

I assume most here are familiar with the Mex Imm reg of the
last 2 yrs or so, that require US boaters, private and sportfishing
boats, fishing within 12 mi of
the Mex coast, primarly the Coronado Isles just so. of San
Diego, to get an fmm. Purchased online, obviously no stopping
to get it validated. The Mex Navy checks many boats at the
Coronados, for fmm's. Wonder if the Ensenada Marine guys were looking
to enforce that reg? Although the fmm reg targets US boats
coming into Mex waters, not Mex vessels, but technically you
need an fmm to enter Mex now

Just curious, what would a California fish and game officer's procedure be with a Mexican national fishing in California waters with no ID in
possession?

the military check point in El Rosario asked for my "tarjeta identification" friday. gave him my CDL, although my free FMM was sitting under my
wallet. he then let me pass without a "revision."

Los marinos...are the marines and the ocean is their jurisdiction. They will do spot checks on any vessel to check paperwork etc. so have your fishing
license, ID and tourist visas with you at sea.

FYI, I had my passport card, driver license and a valid fishing license.
I just didn't have my FMM as it was in my passport, in the car.
In more than 20 years, I've never been asked for my FMM as I can recall.

Remember this is hit and miss country. You could go 10/40 years never get asked for paper work. Its always best,to have all paper work in order. The
rules are in forced,by each official. The way they see it that day. As I was going across border South TJ. I had dirt bikes in back. They pulled me
over(Im driving my Mex plated truck). She asked for my current Reg for dirt bikes.I give her paper work. Then She asked for Reg for truck. She did not
even open it.Could tell by the color,it was Mex truck. She said(big Smile) Your Mexican go ahead.

I would think a California Fish and Wildlife officer would be interested in your catch and check for a licence. Doubt they would be interested in a
visa issue.
BTW how was the fishing?

Fishing was very good. A ridiculous amount of Bonito, and one Salmon. There were two of us on the boat. At times, all four rods were hooked up.
Next time, we will go for something other than Bonito.

I didn't want this to be a political issue. I just wanted to alert that this may happen, and to be prepared.

Bigbear, thanks for that info. I have never bothered with getting a FMM, never been checked, but am thinking maybe I should start. Another hassle.
I wanted to add I just returned from a trip south of San Felipe. They are doing some re paving in the Laguna Salada area. There were a couple of
half-mile sections where a strip of new asphalt has been laid along the shoulder of the road and there is a 2 inch ledge of soft asphalt right where
your outside wheels normally run, also no striping or reflectors.

When some of my Canadian riding buddies go to Baja, some don't get their tourist visa....and spout off a bunch of reasons....I do get mine....because
I would rather be prepared than get the run around....worth $25 for the peace of mind....
Don't believe everything you think....
