There Wasn't Epic Surf in Baja this Weekend, BUT........

We still had fun. After all, the initial goal was to head down to watch the Baja 1000 and maybe scope out a nearby point break in hopes of finding something rideable.

Mi amigo, Miguel and I bailed SD Wednesday night and stayed at Jardines. The next morning we got stuck in a 2 hour traffic jam in El Rosario while the town people decided to shut down the Transpeninsular Hwy for a celebration. It was cool. We did some shopping while the truck was stuck in traffic at the Left Turn.

We bought vegetables, beer, ice, yogurt, fruit -- it ended up being a good thing - the road closure.

Day 2 was a beach day. We body surfed and ate food all day. Talks about happiness.

We were so relaxed that we didn't make it over to the race course to see Honda come thru first.

With no surf around we decide to bail. Was hoping to see Stuck Sucks, Paul W, but we never connected. I did get some photos of Nomad Tunaeater. I will find them.

Robby Gordon was checkin out of the hotel as we were checking in.

The next day ended in Oceanside........................

Nice!!! I love that part of Baja! What was the fencing surrounding in that one shot? A well? Great shots of the race as well. Glad you had a good trip. Thanks for the pics!

You bring up a good question. That's why I put that in there. Anyone know? Didn't look like a well. Looked like a large PVC pipe with a cut out for a bird to drink out of with some hay.

Any ideas people?

Not this time. We have done pits for THR/Precision Concepts/Kawasaki team in the past, but not this race. And yeah, Estero Beach Hotel is very swanky!

This is one of your favorite stretches for fishing if I remember. My rod was in need of some maintenance and I was too lazy to bring it. Big mistake.

The Great Wallenda said ''The wire is life. Everything else is waiting.''

Surfers make do and wait. I think ''Surfing is life. Everything else is waiting.'' Call me myopic.

REALLY good photos - makes me feel like I was there! Do I see some evidence of mud in a couple photos?

Karl Wallenda's nephew Konrad was my employer for a short time. Konrad was in the family business until an accident on the high wire cost him three fingers off his hand. He became a German car mechanic because there was more to life than the wire and you can't fall far from a Mercedes! Uncle Karl died from a fall off the wire a few years after Konrad left.
