Winter weather
So I'm taking off on a road trip and Im either heading down to baja or I'm going to head east and go to the southwest and see indian ruins and stuff
like that in new mexico and arizona.. I looked at the weather down in baja today and it isn't exactly beach weather.. Im thinking ill wait to go to
baja when its a little hotter, what do y'all think?

Weather is great...especially after such hot Oct/Nov. Highs in upper 70's, lows upper 50's and it will warm a little later in the week. Pretty darn
nice.

Heat is what I run back to Alaska every spring to avoid! I love Baja this time of year, who wants have to hide from the sun, and depend on A/C to
sleep at night?
I prefer the Cortez side in the winter, and it seems there are fewer bugs flying around that time of year.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

You're going to get a myriad of answers depending on where the respondent is from. Being from Alberta, the weather in La Paz this winter is
perfect...days in mid to high 20s with nights in mid teens, although this morning was nippy at 7C. I haven't had the a/c on for three weeks.

The southwest and indian ruins right now are all colder than a mother-in-law's kiss. Full-on winter. Mesa Verde is over 7,000' elevation;
Albuquerque north is full-on blizzard today and tomorrow; southern NM is 50º f. and 30+ mph winds at the moment. Save the Dead Indian stuff for April
and May, trust me.
Baja has a half-dozen temperate zones in winter; warmest is south cape, Sea of Cortez side can be downright chilly (upper half) to perfectly cozy
(middle half) and Pacific side has weather all its' own. Go south, enjoy, travel, find your nook.
I don't have a BUCKET LIST, but I do have a F***- IT LIST a mile long!

Since you are pretty much sitting on a bullseye in Eureka, I suggest you move!
The indications so far are that this is a strong system developing, but may not follow normal patterns. In the central part of California where I am
right now, we are only slightly over 50% of normal precipitation. The storms have mostly passed north and south of us.
What the effect on Baja will be this year....I don't have a clue, but would not worry about planning around it. Don't over think things, you plans
will change as the trip progresses anyway, so embrace the adventure!
Edit; When I suggested that you move, I did not mean permanently. Just get out of El Nino's way, go to Baja for a while!

mid section BAJA SOC side 40's night and mid 70's daytime with much humidity.. and wind this year... Left last week, returned to Colorado to next
day 14 degrees morning and 5 inches of new snow.. Stayed one night in Gila Bend, Az, and put the long pants on....
Still pretty nice down there,, and not many bugs this time of the year.
Beats carrying firewood and pushing snow...
It's desert cold at night.... just like the sw U.S.

This is even better  ... The thing about El Nino years is that they are NOT like
usual. Weather is more violent and hard to predict.
When will people already stop asking - What is winter like in Baja, what will it be like in a week (or a month, or whatever). Check the temps in your
planned areas Here. Click on the area -> closest station -> More -> Archives -> Air Temps. Check temp graphs for today and for the last few days,
to get an idea. Don't bother checking last year archives, because this year is not like last year (and I'm afraid we'll see many more years that are
not like before, but this is a different topic).
What BB said: find your nook and be happy. A nook - literally. When you're sitting on leeward side of building, sun shining and it feels hot. You make
a few steps and immediately want to put a jacket on. Temperature (and subjective feel) vary wildly from place to place and from day to night.
One thing you should not expect in Dec-Jan is warm water. Though it may be "warm enough" in shallow and sheltered bays.

Forgot to tell about "indian ruins". They are most impressive farther South, in Central and South Mexico and adjacent Guatemala. And weather is
exactly the best during Dec-Jan, not too hot and not too rainy (hotel operators are well aware of this, unfortunately).

Imagine people will stop asking about the weather in Baja when they become super nomads and know all the answers, perhaps?
