I want to get a few books on baja for the trip, should I order them off amazon, or do they have a good selection down there?

Not until you get to nearly the tip, at San José del Cabo is Baja Books And Maps http://bajabooksandmaps.com
In San Diego, the largest selection of all Baja books and maps is at Discover Baja Travel Club (they do sell to non-members, but membership gains you
a discount). Their location and selection is on their website: http://discoverbaja.com
Both stores sell the newest and only guide to accurately show the founding of all 48 California Missions, in both Baja and Alta California...

I would recommend Amazon....my favorites are from Earle Stanley Gardner (creator of Perry Mason) on his Baja explorations such as "Hunting the Desert
Whale". Also order David's book on the missions....lots of good information. Books by Graham Macintosh on his adventures in Baja. Bernie Swaim for a
humorous look at Baja characters and locations and Jack Smith for his "God and Mr Gomez". Abebooks is great for out of print subjects

actually tourists don't bring books anymore...
they read a kindle or sync the kindle to their smart phone
and read the phone
books are too cumbersome and just about every book is online at a lower price
the future is already here

God and Mr. Gomez by Jack Smith is a must read for coming South. Very light and funny reading.

Your post just brought back amazing memories. I spent years reading Jack in the LA Times.

Actually tourists do bring regular books
Not all tourists have a Kindle, and sometimes smart phone screens are too small
Which Baja books are on-line?? Gardner, Swaim and Smith are not
Sometimes, people want a "real" book
How do you leave your Kindle at a lending library??

God and Mr. Gomez will tickle your fancy.
I think I will grab it and reread it right now for a good laugh!
