Is that trailer hauling cargo, or is it a camper? If so, there is a well developed rest stop on I-5 on the north side of San Diego.
It is a bit on the busy side, but you can catch up on your sleep in Baja.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!
"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

I'll agree with Motel 6. E street exit from I-5 and across trolley tracks from freeway. Meets your specs, night watchman in the parking lot gives
the impression of some security. Large, lit parking lot. I've stayed there multiple times pulling a boat or utility trailer and/or with kayak on top
and not had a problem. I don't leave anything loose, though, it's locked, cabled, or chained.

The rest area.
AKgringo
We stayed in that rest area in 2007 on our first trip to BCS ...worked well but we were in our van.
Now we have a very small off road tent trailer and I doubt the karma would be just perfect for setting it up at the rest area.

i disagree...
you're not in kanas anymore or aldervale for that matter...
pretty dangerous at the border...
i'd stay a little north in Miramar or Oceanside or El Cajon
and figure $100 plus

Traffic between that big rest stop north of Oceanside to the border can be BAD.
Holiday traffic, the L.A. exodus (every weekend), and just the daily morning and late afternoon work traffic.
8pm to 7am is a pretty good window to transit San Diego to the border. Next might be the 10am to 2pm window (on work days).

La Quinta Inn at the 805 and Bonita Road. Easy distance from either Otay or San Ysidro but not to close, pet friendly and vehicle/trailer parking
available

I think you are nuts. Plenty of good places in chula vista, mission valley, etc.

VAGABOND INN
230 Broadway
Chula Vista
ph. (619) 422-8305
res. (800) 522-1555
www.vagabondinns.com
Tha Vagabond Inn gives a discount to anybody who asserts a connection of any kind to Baja. A room was around $50 when I last stayed there a couple of
years ago. It is a little seedy, but not as seedy as the Motel 6 around the corner on E St. The VI also has a big secure parking lot. I've parked a
boat on a trailer there a number of times for up to a week or longer with no problem.

If you decide to cross, I can recommend some places in Playas at 1/3 the cost with safe parking for your trailer.
