Hwy 1 between Erendira and Santo Tomas

Posted on Talk Baja Facebook page about 9am Tuesday:

Highway 1 totally shut down between Erendira and Santo Tomas... rcvd text from friends heading north...km63, people just standing outside of cars, at least 15 minutes now, probable wreck.

Update 10am - .. road is still blocked, unsure of reason, just rcvd text from 2 different cars of friends who were heading north this morning, both are turning around and heading back to Erendira... am sure the reason to the blockage (wreck, landslide, etc..) will show up soon

Plan accordingly

Currently raining in Ensenada

Thanks for the quick Road Conditions report!

I posted what I had........It says Hwy 1. Probably between the turnoff to Erendira and Santo Tomas.

You are speaking of Hwy. 1, yes? Erendira is like 11 miles from Hwy. 1 on its own paved side road.

Hey guys, probably the heading should have said:

"Hwy 1 between the turn off to Erendira and Santo Tomas"

because it seems to be on Hwy. 1 south of Santo Tomas going over the ridge, see photo on the link for "El Mexicano" on my previous post.

A point of interest: That ridge south of Santo Tomás is the highest point on Hwy. 1 until you are south of El Rosario... about 1,700 feet.

South of El Rosario the highway reaches near or above 2,000 feet for much of the distance to Laguna Chapala valley. The pass south of the valley is about 2,400 feet. It never gets that high again all the way to Cabo. East of San Ignacio it gets near 1,700 feet and again south of La Paz near San Antonio, the same.

All of Hwy 1 requires a level of attention. This is one of several sections that has always been on my radar as needed extra attention. Curvy with big trucks and crazy folks passing at unsafe times. Have seen several accidents thru here over the years.

Yes it was a mess yesterday. I saw the explorer and Honda in town. No real problems other than the rain all day. I got home at 3am.
