Puertecitos advise
Well it finally all came together and I will be heading down from beautiful Salida Co. to Punta Chivato for the winter +
Second night I was thinking of camping around Puertecitos (not opposed to a pet friendly motel but don't think there are any there)
Question is any recommendations for a place where I can have a little elbow room as one of my dogs, while sweet to me is not so much so with other
animals. Dont care about services as I wil just be overnighting.
Any other advise is always appreciated
Gracias
Anthony

There are palapa campos just north of Puertecitos where the highway comes close to the gulf. Campo Destiny might be the name?

How nimble is your vehicle? I have managed to find a few pretty neat, deserted beaches to overnight on. Four wheel drive and good clearance is
required, and don't wait until it is dark to start looking for an access point!
Expect coyotes. They don't seem aggressive, but they are bold!
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

Just south of Puertecitos is a beach place with plapas. The sign on the road says Food Here. Out houses with buckets for flushing if the caretaker is
around.

...aren't all those access roads now blocked by a huge curb and sidewalk (!!) in parts,,let alone fencing?
That was my impression a couple of years ago.
Finding those isolated camp spots is my style,,but I found it rather frustrating in that region

Bahia Christina.......I think just past Puertecitos on the left hand side. I think that is the place that says food. If it is still open, Nice
people and nice place to camp right on the water. water. Probably not free. good food also but when we were there the food was only available on the
weekends. Good luck with that and have fun, Nancy

The entire portion of the gulf road seen on this map is now a paved highway.

Following an arroyo down to a beach is sometimes a winning move. I sometimes have to do a bit of backtracking, and occasionally self recovery!
Edit by AKgringo; I tried to do a partial quote, and screwed this up to the point where you can't tell who said what! Sorry Micah

Thanks again all for your generosity of time and spirit
AK I have a late model 4x4 Cherokee, only problem is I will be pulling a small utility trailer with my dual sport on it. I am open to all
possibilities however! Good advise for the early pull off

as soon as you get there it is all, literally, right there. eat in SF and then find a place for you and the dogs. be aware that coyotes love to lure a
dog away from camp to "play".

I agree with Micah...not that long ago "carrying on" to Gonzaga Bay was another teeth rattling two hours or so over the old road. Now it is just
another easy 45 minutes and you have your pick of the litter of easy camping spots or Alfonsina's.
But don't get me wrong, I miss the old road

Micah and Red
Thank you for the advise but I don't know if I can make it before nightfall. I won't hit the border until around one.

yah,,you certainly don't want to rush things ,,especially between Felipe and Peurto.
Personally I usually take the softer choice,,would stop at Felippe,,enjoy the town. Crossing border at 1pm, on these short days,,,I wouldn't carry on
from San Felippe later than 2 or you'll be huntin' in th' dark anyways,,this time of year. Go for one of the many nice choices in SanF
. To tell you the truth of 3x stopping in Peurtecitos over the years,,,I'd say San Felippe and Gonzaga Bay each have wayyy more to offer, each
in their own way. Why rush things at all you've got ALL winter you lucky soul!
It's also useful to know that at least 95% of the road between Peurtocitos and Gonzaga is better condition than most interstates! Probably one place
I'd consider dropping the 'DDAN'* rule,,,,but I wouldn't, you'd miss the view!!

In bygone days when the roads were narrower (and in poor shape) truckers would barrel down the middle of the road at night, that and the threat of
cattle on the road were the reason for not driving at night.
neither of these apply to this stretch, geeze folks, its 2016!
the only reason I see for not driving at night is the pain of setting up camp in the dark.
BUT AS ALWAYS.......YMMV
