Humble Electoral Institute Directors

Give themselves a 40% pay raise!

This comes from Mexico News Daily.

Running an election is a lot of work, which is why electoral institute directors in at least one state decided they deserved a 40% raise.

Voters in Baja California will elect five mayors and 25 deputies to the state Congress in a June election that will be managed by the directors of the state’s electoral institute. So for 2016 those directors decided to bump their monthly salaries from 63,090 pesos (US$ 3,525) to 95,000 pesos.

The director general will also enjoy a bigger paycheck, one that will jump from 97,206 to 141,000 pesos.

In comparison, the state governor is paid a monthly salary of 109,000 pesos.
