camping on the Vizcaino peninsula
I've been to Campo Rene at Abreojos but I was wondering if anyone had info to share about established camping areas near Bahia Tortuga,Bahia
Asuncion,La Bocana. Or do I just find a place and boondock? Also I thought I heard about an small RV place/park in Puerto San Carlos/MagBay.
any input appreciated

Yes, if you like to boon dock, there are many great places between San Roque and Abreojos and out toward Tortugas.
Be prepared, however, to maybe have some visitors. That coast is patrolled to help stop poaching of lobster, abalone etc. that all belongs to the
fishing co-ops. The guys are good people and will not cause you any problems. We have even been stopped during the day when just visiting beaches.
I remember once in San Hippolito we were questioned and ended up being invited to one of their homes. It is a good thing.
Also, if you camp in an area like Punta Choros, a popular surf spot for Bahia Asuncion, there are apt to be other campers there from the local town.
There are no better people anywhere and they will quickly make friends with you.
Have a great time --- the choices are there

From their website:
Campo Sirena is a full service campground on the beach in the village of Asuncion...only a couple blocks from restaurants and stores. There are power
& water hookups available for RV's as well as tenting areas.
There is a small clubhouse/library with a bathroom, shower, wireless internet and laundromat as well as a dumping station.
RATES
RV w/hookups $20 day ($120 week) ($400 month)
Campers...... $15 day ($90 week) ($300 month)
Tents..... $10 day ($60 week)
Dump station fee of $10
We also have lots available for yearly leases for RV's
as well as longer term casita rentals from Jan-sept.

Is "Punta Choros" in close to town near Shari and Juans B and B or out a ways about a mile south of San Roque? There didn't seem to be anyplace with
rideable waves close to town (1st week Nov 2015) so, not sure what name goes with what spot. The area between the racetrack and San Roque seemed to
have at least a little potential.
Also, is it kosher to pay for and use the shower house at the campground without staying at least a night?

The turn off for Punta Choros is a couple of miles south of Bahia Asuncion. As far as the waves go, sometimes it is great and other times very flatl
It is where they hold the annual surf contest and hope the waves are good that day.
I forget the name of the surf spot between BA and San Roque, but, again, it is not always good.

If you pay for using the shower it's OK. I've stopped many times at camp grounds to shower after camping several days and paid just to shower, not
staying.

Choros is a couple of miles south of Asuncion. You don't see much surfing around town/San Roque. I don't think anyone would object to you paying to
use the facilities, but best to check with the locals. (Plus Shari and the local crew are awesome, so stop in for some beers).
It can be a little startling to have the local co-op vigilancia spotlighting your tent outside of town at night, but they're friendly.
We got some pretty weird vibes from Tortugas that were confirmed by local sources, and I would not set up camp nearby or leave anything unsecured
there.
Les and Blanca in La Bocana are great - they run a little B&B there that could provide you a break with a bed and shower if you needed it.
