800 calls to U S

A few years ago Carlos Slim having cornered most of the cash in Mexico started providing toll free calls through Telmex land lines to U S numbers. There is/was a way to place such calls to U S 800 numbers. Does anybody know the numerical prefix required to call a U S 800 number on a Telmex landline?

Mexico has its own series of 800 numbers, so in order to make dialing U.S. numbers possible, they came up with a simple system. Simple - once you know the secret...
To dial a United States 800 number FROM Mexico, replace the 800 prefix with the prefix shown below:
Ø 800 numbers Dial 001-880-then the number
Ø 866 numbers Dial 001-883-then the number
Ø 877 numbers Dial 001-882-then the number
Ø 888 numbers Dial 001-881-then the number

Side note: Has anybody used skype recently to call AK AIR customer service from Mexico? All my other Skype 800 numbers work like normal but calling AKAIR customer service or 1800AKAIR results in a pickup for a second and then hang-up.

I haven't found a direct non-800 number for AKAIR to try as a work around.

Thanks,

Does not work for me using my T-Mobile/Telcel service on my cell phone. I get a recording saying it's not a toll-free call and I will be charged Int'l calling rate. ???

The info below is for Telnor only. Does not apply to Cell phones or Skype.

Toll Free calling -Mexican phones

Here is some info that is new to me with more toll free substitutes for calling while in Mexico. Probably not new info for many Nomads?
As reported when dialing a toll free number to the US from Mexico replace the US toll free prefix with the Mexican equivalent. Applies to both Cell and land line Mexican phones.

I just love Mexico. Expect the unexpected. From my Telmex landline and my Telcel cel I can call anywhere in the world for free EXCEPT toll free numbers which cost bunches.
