Beached Whales

Where is Playa Bufeo. It is near Ensenada and two dozen pilot whales were beached there. Hopefully none was a close friend of Shari.

Punta Bufeo is 5 miles north of Gonzaga Bay.

Oh, edit... if you didn't know, Gonzaga Bay is on the opposite side of the peninsula from Ensenada and over 150 miles further south.

Friends have been sending me alerts and updates since it happened and unfortunately only 2 adults and a calf survived the mass stranding....leaving 24 dead Pilot whales on the beach. There were no indications of any fish netting issues and the whales that all those dedicated volunteers managed to get back into deeper water just turned around and beached again....so very very tragic.

Whales dont want to drown so if they are sick or dying, they will go into the shallows to rest and die so most times it's not worth the danger and stress of trying to get them back in the water unless it is a case of a baby who just miscalculated or was separated from it's mom and needed to rest it's flippers....they can survive, reunite with mom or get adopted by another lactating female.

Most times all we can do is stay with the distressed animals, keep them comfortable by putting water over them or covering them with a blanket or tarp, keep the birds and predators away and just comfort them emotionally until they cross over to the other side

Pilot whales commonly strand...whether it be a case of being sympathetic to a sick or dying whale, following a leader or what some believe is that their navigation equipment is damaged due to underwater explosions or even the shifting of the earth's magnetic field can lead to strandings. RIP you soulful ones.

I would think that all but 2 surviving is very fortunate. I hope you are right?

Because Punta Bufeo is in the Municipality ("county") of Ensenada, that is why the location get confused with the city of the same name!

Tragic, tragic. I hope that they soon understand the WHY this happens.

soo ... more tragic than some _______ approaching a farmer and requesting they slaughter a baby goat so they can roast over their campfire ?
hmmmm ok.

(at least the whale didn't have it's expiration date dictated by someone else)

No Saving Needed

A Rib-Eye every few days is all it takes.

Along with all that other meat that's such a treat to eat.

YUM.

The Pleasure is ALL Mine

As I munch my Carnivore way through my Septuagenarian decade, I often reflect on (among others) two former vociferous Vegan "friends" who went face down from coronaries at 47 and 52.

Thinking of them always brings a smile as I savor that charred and bloody Beef.

Not tonight, though.

Dead Pig (Loin Chop) instead.

Yummy, too.

Octagenarian Days are Aways Away

Eight years is a LONG time in the Geezerhood.

But, IF I make it there, I'll be looking forward to that daily Fried, Broiled, Roasted or BBQ'd Flesh.

I HOPE.
