Mikes Sky Rancho
Guys I have been up to Mike's sky ranch a couple of times but it has probably been 15 years. My kids want to take a trip up there to check it out and
I was thinking about going up there this weekend for just a quick trip. I have a couple of questions. We are very comfortable driving in Baja on all
types of roads and have a suburban.
1. We live in Coastal north county San Diego what is the best route to get there and how long will it take us. We are thinking of leaving bright and
early on Saturday morning. I have a Baja almanac but it is always good to get some recent advice on directions
2. What is the best way to reach them to make a reservation, this is the number I have, 011-52-664-68-15514, so I will give that a try when I get
home. if you have a better way let me know
3. Any must see's in the area, swimming holes, cave paintings, etc.. The few times I have been there have been quick stops either during the race or
pre-running.
Thank s for the help.
Josh

No problem Making it in the suburban. Big stop for me is tacos in valle t. Either the Rancho or the other stand at the valle t hotel. Cross at tecate
for sure. Pavement to Hwy 3 or dirt road (compadre trail) to Ojos negros

Hey Josh,
Here is my trip report and map from our Mike's trip last October...we staged at Rancho Ojai outside of Tecate and took the dirt down the Compadre
Trail. It was a great trip and we did do the hike to the swimming hole southeast of Mike's...

Access is south from Hwy. 3 (Ensenada-San Felipe Hwy.) near San Matias, just east of Valle de Trinidad.
Here is a road log I made, but going the opposite direction of your route to the rancho...
Part 2, Mike's Sky Rancho north to Hwy. 3
Mike's Sky Rancho: 0.0 miles, 0:00 hours (map datum NAD27/ Baja Almanac)
Rancho El Conejo road: 5.1 mi., 0:21 hrs., 4,108', 31°09.94', 115°39.17'
La Cieneguita road northwest: 5.7 mi., 0:24 hrs., 4,115', 31°10.46', 115°39.30'
Rancho San Javier road: 8.3 mi., 0:30 hrs., 4,287', 31°11.70', 115°37.52'
Rancho San Antonio: 9.8 mi., 0:37 hrs., 3,956', 31°12.40', 115°36.72'
Road to west (Alberchigos): 13.3 mi., 0:48 hrs., 3,583', 31°15.16'. 115°36.00'
Rancho Picacho road south: 16.8 mi., 0:57 hrs., 3,438', 31°17.77', 115°35.06'
Highway 3 (just east of San Matias): 19.8 mi., 1:03 hrs., 3,143', 31°20.24', 115°34.39'

Tried to post a pic that was too large. Maybe you should try some of mikes homemade tequila next time. Smooth.

Be careful on that road. I couldn't get thru with my jeep and ended up backing for at least a 1/4 mile before I could turn around. No big deal except
that I was on a shelf road in 4 low with a 200 ft. dropoff.

I hear you about the road.
DK, I might go trout fishing. Maybe in Feb before or after the PLR. Mike Jr told me the best time to fish there is in Jan and Feb when it's the
coldest otherwise the trout are not that good to eat.
