Do we know where the new alignment goes? Or is this just a matter of rebuilding what we already rebuilt?

The article states the bypass (not new alignment of the current toll road) will be from BajaMar - north end (the Golf Course) to El Tigre on the free
road - south end.
The bypass will probably be used as a "just in case" if there are more problems with the toll road

Probably not if, but when. I doubt this money would be allocated without the bean counters being assured, but silent, about the certainty of future
disaster.

That whole area from the toll booths at San Miguel north to El Mirador is a disaster waiting to happen

The article is not totally clear about the alignment of the bypass. It sounds like it will go east of Bajamar to go around El Cerro del Tigre, which
is the area around the turnoff for La Ruta del Vino and where the old highway starts to go downhill to San Miguel, just south of the last toll
station.
It sure seems like they expect another landslide and road closure. I drove the old highway several times after the toll road closure, and it was
bumper to bumper traffic moving very slow. Lots of big semis to really jam things up.
This bypass should be separate from the old highway. There always has to be a free alternative in Mexico.

The bypass adds more miles, so will increase driving Time. You can google up maps of the route.
I think the free road stays the same. The proposed bypass goes further inland.

If you drive the toll road on a continuous basis you will notice subsidence cracks.....and they are always patching segments. The whole area from the
San Miguel toll booth north to El Mirador is a subsidence zone

No one wants to believe that "scenic" area is unstable, but for many years, if you looked up the hillside near the San Miguel tollbooth, you could see
remnants of foundations of houses built there in the 80s.
Sounds like the SCT is finally accepting the inevitable.
