Returning paperwork after a visit across the border

Just saw this questions posted in "Como Esta la Linea" on Facebook. Does anyone know the answer?

Una pregunta una vez que sales de USA debes de entregar el permiso i-94?
Es que he visto paginas que dicen que se deben de regresar , para que ellos sepan que saliste del país .

Facebook translation: A question once you get out of the usa you must deliver the I-94 permit?
It's just that I've seen pages that say that must be returned, so that they know that you got out of the country.

(Reminded me of similar questions about returning FMMs. )

\"Probably the airplanes will bring week-enders from Los Angeles before long, and the beautiful poor bedraggled old town will bloom with a Floridian ugliness.\" (John Steinbeck, 1940, discussing the future of La Paz, BCS, Mexico)
